Gear selector issue

On my 88'..

You can move the shifter (col mount) normally but it will move through ALL the gears with almost zero effort. So I have to VERY slowly move the shifter to get the right gear. As if something is worn out in the linkage?

IE.. To move the shifter normally to reverse (effort wise) will pretty much get you first or low.

Way to much travel in the link???

Any ideas or am I making any sense?

Hello!
I may be wrong but I'm making just a wild guess. While replacing stock transmission fluid pan with Trick Flow one I took a closer look at some moving parts visible with the pan off.
There was a small roller on a spring and a "comb" (dunno how o call it) sliding on the roller. I think that's what makes us feel we are shifting thru the gears. So if the spring broke (think it was held by a bolt, so maybe it simply unbolted) it's possible that you will move thru the gears with no effort.
Remember it's just a wild guess and only things I know about auto trannies is how to select gear and change fluid/filter :D
Have a good day!
