The eec is in the pass. side kick panel, behind some carpet/cover.
And yes, there's a difference between the SO, and the HO eec's.

If you stay speed density, the harness can be left alone. If you go Mass Air,you have some wiring changes to do.

Just because the motor had Mass Air doesn't mean you have to have it in your car.If it's a basically stock 5.0 H.O.,Speed Density should be fine.If it's got a lot of mods (heads, cam) Mass Air may be needed. If you have to go Mass Air,get the kit from Ebay and follow the instructions to a "T".You'll be fine after that.If you keep Speed Density (for a somewhat stock H.O),the DA1 is a really good computer and works well with a 5 speed.

Not necessarily.Speed Density isn't a bad system.I've been told many times that a factory Speed Density car is faster than a factory Mass Air car (A little).Keep the Mass Air computer and use it later when you mod the engine,or,as I stated, just buy the Mass Air conversion kit off Ebay for something like $40.00 and get busy wiring that car up.Once you do the mods to your harness (Just a few wires to deal with, move two,add two, splice two....that's it),install the meter under the hood, air intake tubes, and off you go.

If the wrecked car is a T-Bird,swap harnesses maybe.I tried to swap a harness from an '87 to an '88 and it wouldn't work.If they are both 5.0 cars of the same years, swap that harness and rock on.I swapped the harness in about 30 minutes. No big deal.

The Mustang harness will NOT work, at all.

There's no point real point in retro swapping back to SD (speed density) especially if you plan to mod the engine later on.
If you go to a very much larger cam, or most aftermarket heads, you'll need MA anyway...

Do as Vin suggests and get the ebay MA coversion, and add it to your Tbird harness, use the stang engine and ecm, and you'll be golden.

The biggest prob with a Mustang harness in a Tbird is that it does not interface with any of the Tbird connectors.

Also, the 5.0 Thunderbird/Cougar engine harnesses are a bit different from '87 to '88, mainly in the connectors...stick with the same year of harnesses, regardless of engine year...example: if your car is an '88, then don't mess with an '87 harness, even if the engine IS an '87...unless you wanna change your dash wiring, and some other stuff that I can't remember.
Sorry if this confuses you...hope this helps :D
