Climate (sp?) control unit

Today driving to work the Temp ## display on my unit started blinking. Wouldn't stop until I pulled over and shut down for a minute. When I restarted the car it was normal.

Also when it was blinking the air blowing was full hot whether I had it on 60 or 90, after restart it was cool @60 like it aught to be.

Any ideas? I have a used replacement I have been putting off putting in. I only bought it because some parts will get harder and harder to find so I by one here and there as I go. Plan to keep my 88 Sport as long as I can find a way to keep it running. I'm at 214000 miles and no rebuilds yet.
