Bad egr valve

my check engine light is on. the guy at autohole used his reader and told me it was the egr valve and cleaning it might do. what do you guys think? if it does need to be swapped, will the one on my 3.6 v6 work? i have a 4.6 v8, just hoping such a small part would be interchangeable.

My 01 Grand Marquis had a code P0401, EGR flow insufficient.

The problem was the "tube mounted EGR pressure sensor".
Part # 9J460

Ford extended the warranty on this part for an additional two years or 24k miles because "the component has recently been improved upon".

Well my question was would i have to replace it or could i just clean it out. $40 parts that don't do much really irritate me.

If needing cleaning is what the problem is, cleaning will fix it.

is it likely that that's all it is though?
