Another forum needs your help about using T5 transmissions. September 10, 2007, 09:18:08 AM Hey guys, Sorry to intrude on your forum but I need an answer you may be able to provide. I came over from the Miata forum because a bunch of us have V8's in our cars.Mine is a supercharged built 306 in a '92 Miata producing almost 500rwhp. The reason I'm here is because I understand many of you install a T5 transmission just like us.I read on a site called MN12performance that they sell an "extension" for the shifter box to extend the box the shifter sits in.Like ya'll, the T5 moves the transmission 3-4" forward compared to where we'd like to have it.The company MN12 apparently became defunct last month (just my luck... day late...well, in this case, month late)So, my question to you guys is...a) do you use the shifter relocating box and if so, where are you guys getting it from? Thanks so much for your help, again, I apologize for intruding on your forum but I'm hoping you can help a bunch of us out. Right now, we're modifying the shifter handle but having that extension would allow us to use a wide variety of shifters that we can't now. Thanks,Mark Quote Selected
Another forum needs your help about using T5 transmissions. Reply #1 – September 10, 2007, 09:34:43 AM Hmm, no our shifters stay in the factory location. I'd honestly check with the guys at LS1Tech as the 3rd Gen F-Bodies have a weird T5 setup that might give you some help. Also many of the guys swap LS1/T56's (and the love Miata's) so they may have a solution you could adapt to. Quote Selected
Another forum needs your help about using T5 transmissions. Reply #2 – September 10, 2007, 09:58:23 AM You might try a forum dedicated to MN12 (1989-1997) T-Birds and Cougars as well. The factory 5-speed MN12's used a different transmission (one built by Mazda) that had the shifter located further back than on the T-5. The extension housing you refer to is to convert a T-5 to fit a car that originally had (or was designed for) that Mazda tranny. We "Fox" guys don't have any need for the extension, as the T-5 fits our cars just like the Mustangs (which are also Foxes) - therefore we're not likely going to be able to give you much help. Try http://forums.tccoa.com/ - they seem to be geared more toward the newer stuff. http://www.sccoa.com/ would likely be able to help you as well, as that site is dedicated to the supercharged versions of the MN12, which were the ones that had the Mazda tranny.
