Electric Automatic Overdrive not plugged in??

88 mercury cougar LS...seems to have no overdrive gear...guy i bought it from claims to have put a "new" tranmission it in...wonder if he might have forgot to plug the wires in or whatever....anyone?

Are you sure it's still a AOD in it? also you wont have a EAOD in it. or you shouldn't have one.

If it's an AOD, as it should be, the overdrive isn't electrically actuated.

Do you have the gear selector in Drive instead of overdrive?

How many "detents" do you count from Park to Low?
Might have stuck in a C4/C6 or something, or maybe the OD band on the "new" tranny is already completely shot.
Death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth.

Ok, upon further inspection and putzing around, i looked at the detent cable.....which was missing the brass grommet and clip....was still attached, but just barely....got the grommet an clip on now....nice and tight.....would turning the nut on the end of this detent cable cause any changes?

Thats not a nut, just a retainer with a hex crimp...

Adjustment is made by unlocking the cable and adjusting length(Eric may have picts on Cool Cats)... I just adj for firm shifts... Main thing is you don't want it slipping...
