Rear end work troubles.

So I have been working on the rear end of the TC and as you can see the Rust is pretty bad.



I took off the axle Dampers (KYB's) and broke a stud on the drivers side and tried to drill it out nad the piece that the bolt screws into broke off inside the frame :hick:



So now what ? I want to put the dampers back after I take care of all the rust and paint the underside. So that my new LCA's look nice with all the fresh paint around it.

How do I put another mounting nut in the frame so that I may attach the bracket back????

open trunk
locate hat channel spot welds in the trunk floor pan
drill (big)hole in trunk floor over the quad shock mount that broke
weld new nut to a peice of 1.5"x2.5" flat steel(with a hole in it!) and drop in the hole
OR
drop new nut into the channel and follow that with a socket attached to a short extensionand rachet if youve got a helper to hold it while you tighten the quad shock mount bolt.

I'll take a look at the quad brackets I took off my car. If I can find them, they're yours if you want 'em; Bolts, brackets, nut clips. Otherwise I'd probably do want gumby said with the 1.5 x 2.5 drilled and a nut welded on.

Gumby, how's that dash swap coming along??

Thanks John, my brackets are ok its the nut clip inside the channel that broke off with the rest of the bolt in it.

I am going to do like Gumby said, only I dont have to drill a hole from above since there is a rust hole that appeared in front of the bracket hole when I was doing some rust removal. I will just slip it in thru there and then weld in some new u channel over the rusted out area.
