you lost me there.......

boss heads started with c9 or do castings.
knowing that the boss was 2 years,, im wondering why ford produced a boss head with the d1 casing and the possibllity of it showing up on another car or truck possibly.
sort of like the explorer heads in 97 compared to the cobra.

im sure word would have gotten around by now on this.

Thats why I thought it was a Boss only thing. Whate else could they have been on? I was told that 351c heads on a 302 is , to quote a freind " will make a version of a 302". So I assumed that 351C head would be "boss" heads.

depends on what BOSS you are refering to.

429 or 302 no chance

351 is a possibility

I think some 1970 Cougar Eliminators had Boss 302's.

what  i noticed while looking in my documents, i have a couple of images from a source that i dont know. ,, i posted the images on another thread where someone was asking about pedistal vs studed heads.

i found these images and figure i must have ran across them on one of the archive ford sites but here is what i had to manually type up to add to my DIY link  I also know i have correction/investigations to do with reguard to the 351 heads of 1969 because there are several notes i have calling out the windsor having its highest ouput in this year.
notice the 302boss section and the year.  In 1970, there was a casting number available with a D1 casting on the 302boss.  That leads to my curiosity, was it possible that there are 1971 cars/trucks with these heads and not called "boss"

69 and 70 Boss 302 heads were specific and were not on any other cars. The closest Ford factory head to them is an early 351C 2v head. Now the Austalian 3v 351 head is a much better head but requires a special intake. You want performance on a windsor-style intake, stick with AFR225's.

Boss 351 was 71 only and is also hard to find. Don't even start on Boss 429, guys weld broken-in-half castings back together to get those to run.

The '71 D1ZE head is likely a replacement... Ford often revised numbers on service parts...

Only the '69 & '70 Boss 302 Mustangs AND a FEW Cougar Eliminators had the Boss 302. Those heads have canted valves and require a unique intake, the std manifolds no fitty... Basically they are 351 Cleveland heads with Windsor water passages...

A good set is major $$$$....

Cleveland heads can be made to work, but requires plugging a passage and I believe drilling another... Still need a manifold as the Cleveland piece is too wide....

The 351 Boss was a one year deal... '71 ONLY... In '72 & '73 a lower compression Cobra Jet 351 version was available that was  similar to the '71 Boss motor... A few Torinos got the CJ in '72-'73 in addition to the Stangs... I'm assuming the Mercury models received them as well...
