I have decided black 1987 ford rangers come from the depths of hell........

Well for the past week ive been super stressed out nothing has went right at all.So the question arises why have I came to personally decide ford rangers are built by satan in the depths of hell?

#1 ignition issues (1 distributor,2 duraspark boxes,2 coils) rewired it from the ground up twice to try to pin point a weak spark, when last night it decided to leave me on the side of the road with absoultey no warning just buhhhhhhhh -silence- (dead coil)

#2 fuel issues (2 fuel pumps,1 roll of 3/8th line, filter) well this was kinda expected, I spent 2 weeks or longer fighting with a power loss issue,Come to find out it had no fuel volume (plenty of pressure) then we find that ford decided it was adequit to put 1/4 nylon fuel line from the tank to the front of the cab were the generously stepped it up to 5/16 before the fuel pump (great easy enough fix just some time)

#3 Starter (2 within a 3 month period) So today I Was heading home from work everything going good truck running good (for once) great ! well wrong.... the starter decided it wanted to engauge itself  traced it down to a bare wire that decided to ground itself and activated the starter. So i return the starter to autohole (after walking 2 miles in the rain) suprising that the counter guy didnt even want to check (got the ive seen ya in here and spend alot of money so im going to take care of ya) wich was great to finally get a parts guy that wasnt a dick. so i start walking the 2 miles back  pass a church  were a young girl walks out the door praying for it to rain harder:beatyoass:  great a half mile left well about 10 seconds later it rains even harder. (thinking to myself why do i get pissed on) well about 8 pm tonight it finally cleared up and i put the starter on.

#4 Flywheel  (directly related to the starter issue) found out it is pretty spanked after installing the new starter to hear it sound like a cofee can full of gravels being shook around (but it starts) ;/
(so its staying as is till it has to be fixed)

#5 Tire , Well after installing my new to me wheels (traded for em) From a jeep cherokee (silver 5 spoke sport wheels) looks way better then the ugly 14" ranger doughnuts. so i kept hearing air escape from the passenger front wow a pinhole so i fix a flat it and hope for the best (ya right) so i happen to touch it and pow now we have a 1" hole so now i need a tire (great) so i jump in the wifes car and head 10 miles north t visit the t-bird to get my new to the truck spare tire, get home install it etc... its flat :/ luckily it is a-ok after airing it up (guess the air leaked out over the 4 years they havent been ran)

#5 water leaks..... seems common to the first gen ranger ill leave it at that....

So hopefully I can make it back and forth to work for the next week till i get a payday so i can afford to buy a tire and whatever else may break between now and then.... if not ill hop into the only reliable car i own wich is my dodge ( i love the car :) ) makes me wonder why i dont drive it more anymore other then someone trying to mess up everything i own :(

so you can just ignore this i just needed to rant a little its been a ruff week....

The starter sounds like what mine pulled. I had to put in a new flex. She ate 3 startes in 3 mounths and flattened the flex. Best of luck on fixing that

My 87 Ranger is playing hide and seek with me, I fix one thing and another things breaks... that and it always breaks when it is too cold to fix it! Sheesh.

But I am not giving up on him. Just means I have to fix the cat faster!

P.S. My mom's 87 just ate a starter and the neutral start switch on the clutch keeps popping out....

Sounds like mine. Mine has the starter issues, and the water leaks, and some other little annoyances. Oh and its black too.

The folks over at http://www.rangerpowersports.com have helped me out quite a bit. I see Chuck and shame302 over there once in while. Pretty sure theres a couple more people from here over there too.

-just me, but ever since i bought my first GT in '88 when i got out of college.  i've really never had a problem with mine, EXCEPT the '86 4cyl. i got tht puke 2 trannies(a4ld) within 4 months of each other. that original '88 i had to put a connecting rod in, but it was totally my fault.(tried to start it with a busted fuel pressure reg diaphram)but i didnt know the symtoms of that then.  it had 357,000 miles on it when it was took out in a wreck.  my current GT has over 212,000 on it.  it smokes like a train, but the cat. converter came aprt on it last summer, and if you've never seen what the honeycomb can do to the inside of a engine cylinder, its like sandpaper.  so i add a quart now and then, and drive on.  of couse ive agot a 4ltr swap on tap, when i can spare the truck for a while.  so i've drove three different rangers as daily drivers since 1988.  other than those few incidents, ive really never had to many problems with mine.  id jump any any of them at the time and drove them anywhere with no worries.  but of couse this is just my experience with the ones ive ownd, not yours, but i thought id throw it out there.  there was that time i had a new clutch & pp put in my current one, and the tech drained the fluid out, put new in, but left the fill plug out. i blowed fluid out from alabama to ga. lol.  cost me another $200 for new bearings, but labor was free.  the gears still whine just a little in it after about 80,000 miles. and the bottom of my truck should be able to resist any rust for a while.  its funny now, but wasnt at the time. oh , well had to throw in my $.02 worth.....
