Is it possible? October 04, 2006, 04:41:51 PM Just sitting around waiting for the rain to stop and had a thought. I have a 87 bird winter beater with the 3.8. In my garage is a complete rebuilt 390/300hp from a 65 bird I bought for parts. I have always believed that there is no replacement for displacement and was curious if anyone has ever attempted to stuff one in a fox body bird. Quote Selected

Is it possible? Reply #3 – October 05, 2006, 09:24:06 AM im gunna be dropin my 521 (460) motor in an 87 bird. cantons pan/pickup is about 280$ its a good peice. headers...on fox mustangs with 385 motors they are all using supercomp headman headers. they almost always have clearence issues with the stering shaft tho. im sure you case is different with an fe motor. im not sure if any of my info will aply to u but i tried haha. as far as the trans...we put a c6 in a fox mustang with some "pursuading" of the trans tunnle. dont worry abotu the trans not fitting. just make a card board template the width of your bell housing and then beat your tunnle till the template will fit. a 428 cobra jet would be fun...more cid obviously but i dont recall him having one of those in his garage not being used. pop that 390 in there and have a blast! 300hp bird could be a decent 12 second pass with traction, proper gear, and maybee some shaved weight. if that is not enough then go with the universal answer to the universe..... nitrous...if you have nitrous ...more nitrous... haha obviously i say this in all my post to be funny but realistically that motor would love a 75-100 shot. and then u have a 400 hp bird. itll be fun.
