Belt lengths w/o A/C?

Well a few months ago my power steering pump seized on me luckily i was within 1/2 mile of the parts store so i went and got a belt to bypass it. I got the belt for a car without A/C and just ran it over the A/C compressor. Well i finally got the pressure line replaced yesterday and put the pump in. when i tried to put the belt on, and just bypass the compressor, it hits the belt on the water pump pulley. I dont understand why the belt for a car without A/C wont work. Following the diagram it looks like it should work but it doesnt fit. Anybody have any suggestions? I have an underdrive pulley for the crank and water pump that were on the engine when i got it but i switched them out for the tbird ones so my belt would fit right. Thanks

Alittle off topic, but is that an American Racing wheel in your sig. Because it looks exactly like what I have on my car.

actually its a US wheel called Hammer its on summit thats what i have on my car. I'm hoping i can fit some 265/50's under the rear with these rims. If not them im getting some star rims. I just wish i had $$ to get a new belt so i could have power steering, it would be much easier to drive

Now that i look at your rims they look exactly the same

If the car didnt look like A$$ i would take some pics and post them

back to your topic, to determine the size of belt that you need..  take a tape measure and route it around the pulleys that you want to use and see how long it is.  this is what we had to do on my friends mustang with aftermarket pulleys when he shreaded his belt.

Or if you don't have a tape measure, wrap a string around it and measure the string.

How much of a compensation for the tensioner should i use? I think i need either an 85" or 86" belt with my underdrive pulleys on. Anybody know if they make a belt that length? Thanks

Dayco part # 5060875 is the size you need for an A/C eliminator bracket.  These cars in fuel injected 5.0 form ALL came with A/C so the engineers at Ford did not bother to design it so the belts would clear without it.

My son has the same problem with his Bronco with the 89 Van 302 the Idler pully will cause the belt to streatch until it rubs the top of the waterpump pully and belt.. I have tried to get him to install another Idler to raise up the belt where the A/C used to be..
