Windshield replacment? October 10, 2006, 11:42:21 AM It the windshield the same in 83-88 T-bird/Cougars? Also has anyone replaced there own windshield. I'm running short on $$$ so I was thinking about changing it my self with the one I have from my 88 cougar. This would be going on my 84 T-bird turbo coupe. I was thinking I just needed the window and the 3M window weld that we sell at work. Anyonw have any other items I will need to get it done right. Quote Selected
Windshield replacment? Reply #1 – October 11, 2006, 10:29:59 AM The 83-88 TBirds and Cougars are all identical. I've done a few of them over the years. Do it on a HOT day, really sunny, and make sure there is AT LEAST one other person to help you. The break kinda easy when they're out of the car. Take all of your interior trim out (A-pillar, cross-windshield bar, headliner). Then take off the large metal piece under the wipers, and all of the window molding (Now's a good time to primer and paint them nicely). Cut the "goo" and run dental floss through it. GENTLY push EVENLY on the windshield from the inside until it pops out. Clean the window channels really good and use new 3M weatherstrip adhesive. Lay in the new windshield bottom first. Make sure everything is as clean as you can possibly get it, makes for a nicer, longer-lasting seal. Good luck Quote Selected
Windshield replacment? Reply #2 – October 11, 2006, 11:21:14 AM I was thinking of using some mig welding wire. I knew all the stuff was gonna have to come off except the headliner. Had not thoght of that. Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking 3M window weld. It that the same as what you are talking about. It comes in a caulkig gun tube. That is what The body shops are telling me. So is it the same stuff. Quote Selected
