There is a town here in Illinois that is the same way. A coal fire started in the mine and it still burns like 30 years later. You can drive through the town an see where the fire is and has been. The are sink hole everywhere where the fire has consumed the ground under it.

Yup.  Been there.  Place is eerie.  They took the town off of maps a couple of years ago.

I've read a bit about Centralia after seeing a thing about it in a magazine a few years ago. Crazy stuff, I gotta tell ya. You'd think the fire would go out eventually.

Yeah I know right.

I guess there is enough coal to keep the fire going for 250 more years...
