Would the Door panels from a 87 TC work in an 86 Cougar? they are much nicer than the stock panels. i like the armrest better than the cougar's

It depends on the style, I believe.
I had '88 XR-7 style door panels in the '86 XR-7 and they did not fit well. They were too thick for the door.
What do the door panels look like on both cars?

85-88 had basicaly the same interior, should fit fine.

They'll work but you might have to drill a few new holes and move a few clips around (where the door handle part attaches). Not terribly hard to do.

as soon as i saw the interior on this car, i  knew i wanted that style door panel. i like how it rises up instead of just dropping off like the cougar does on the armrest. http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=9919
