Title: Q about air bags
Post by: Warbird9 on August 21, 2006, 12:14:06 AM
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows what the proper procedure is for disarming air bags for removal. I picked up a 93 Grand Marque (SP?) from a friend to part out. I'd like to remove the air bags to put 'em on evilbay, and don't want to accidentally set them off, especially if I'm uder the dash, or right in front of them:nono:  :shoothead .

unhook the battery? Don't see why it wouldn't work.

I think you're supposed to wait a while after you unhook the battery. A minimum of 20 minutes should be sufficient.

According to Mitchell:

Disconnect negative and then positive battery cables. Shield both cables. SRS contains a back-up power supply built into air bag diagnostic monitor. Wait at least one minute before servicing any air bag components. System
is now disabled. To activate SRS, see ACTIVATING SYSTEM .
