Title: The new 84TC is home
Post by: Chuck W on August 20, 2006, 10:54:09 AM
Well after a couple months of trying to sort out the road trip, the new aquisition is home from NC.
Loaded behind the tow vehicle

Gumby cooling off after we had to screw around with turning it around on the dolly.  I've towed the silver car tail up before, but this one did not like it.  So much so it broke the rear bumper cover unloading it.  At least it was the rear though and not the front.

A final shot of the car on the dolly before we left Hickory, NC.  As a side note, whoever laid out the streets there needs to be shot.  Check it out on Google maps sometime....:flame:

Overall I'm ok with the car.  Evidently the guy only cleaned the car once in the 2 years he had it....and that's when he took the pics.  It's filty, absolutely filty.  It's rust-free underneath and the spots on the body are just surface spots that can be take care of quickly and easily and I can concentrate on the engine swap.  I'm a bit pissed about the cracked windshield that I didn't know about, but it will be ok for now.  For $300 though, it's a good solid foundation.

I'll get a few more pics the next couple of  days.  It was 3AM when we finally got back to Indy (left here at 8AM).  It's sitting at my work until I get my storage cleaned out, so I can get a couple pics tomorrow.

yay! its home. i got to bed a lil after 4, and got up an hour ago...all in all it was a good trip. we never got TOO lost in hickory, and didnt get stranded on the side of the road w/o a 4lug spare, so i say it was a sucess. :D  scenery and the drive itself were nice too. im glad to have helped out in the rescue of another 4eye.

We did scare the piss out of lots of folks as we blasted through the mountians in a torrential downpour ;)  Only one real "clincher" moment....when all 8 wheels were hydroplaning.... as an 06 Mustang washiznitting his brakes in front of us...for no reason....

Thanks again for the help!

It looks like a steel for $300. You'll have it looking good in no time.

Well I took a couple more pics today.

You can see the little bit of rust on the driver side and at the bottom of the pass door.  Nothing terrible.  Notice the mold on the pass rear quarter  The hood is covered in a layer of scuzz...not sure what it is.
There is this on the top of the car.  Nothing a little work can't fix, it's just from sitting outside in the southern heat/humidity.

And finally a couple pics of the interior.  Aside from it being totally dirty, it's not too bad.  The headliner is still attached, which is kind of a surprise.

Nice Buy.
The body looks great on it for a plain driver fox much less a non-cared for car.

lookin good for an 84. Ahh look it is a lether wraped steering wheel factory in a Turbo coupe. That makes me think of my car only tan not gray like mine. Looks like you finally got the 84 turbo cluster you were looking for. Now you can put those white faces to good use.

I've got no shortage of the clusters ;)  I just needed to fix the one in my '83 before, that's why I was looking.  I have a "proper" steering wheel for it too.  I may work to adapt the stalk-mounted cruise from the 84 XR-7, since the good wheels don't have cruise on them.
