Title: 351 into '88 Turbo
Post by: silvercv2002 on August 19, 2006, 01:59:03 PM
I read the other thread about the swap into an '83, but saw the 88' has a different k-member.  My question is, what parts do I need chassis wise to complete this swap.  I have TONS of experience with Mustangs, but this is my first 'Bird.  What aftermarket parts will fit on this car, and where do I find them?

Thanks in advance!

A mustang tube k-member will bolt in with a bit of modding.
I think a mustang 5.0 strut tower brace will work in a V8 tbird, too.
since you have a TC, your front brakes are the equal of a stock 5.0 stang's setup, minus the ABS, of course...
The '86 thru '88 Tbird k-member is where the hassle starts though...especially when going from 4, or 6 cylinder, to V8...as the V8s for those three years used the hard-to-find motor mount plates.
Another option is to swap in an older Tbird/Cougar k-member (pre 86)
but you'll have to use the A arms from that k-member, as it's wider, compared to 86-88 k-members. There's a good thread about it in the susp. section that goes into great detail. :D
