Finally brought home after over a year or two in my friend's carport. I got this as part of the trade I made for my '86 T-bird. That was (I think) a few months before we left the old slEZboard.
OK, so how do I find a casting/part number on this pig? All I was able to find was a little tag on the front left corner of the engine.. but it wasn't a standard Ford P/N. (E6-whatever)
EDIT: The story on the engine: It came from an 87 van a friend of a close friend used to use to drive around to various flea markets around the state. Somewhere in 1997 the engine took a dump completely. The other guy had to have his mechanic put a whole new short block in it. (I want to clarify this with a little investigative work) The van was driven a grand total of 6000 more miles and sold to my friend in the process before this engine was pulled and stored in said friend's carport. I trust my friend not to lie to me or exaggerate.. he's honest to a fault. He trusts the other guy.. but I want to look into it a little bit more. The front of the engine is VERY dirty for only 6000 miles, but it was a van engine.. and I don't think I've ever seen a clean van engine. They seem to be dirt magnets. Plus it has been sitting in my friend's carport for a couple years now.. that can't have helped the appearance. I don't know if the short block was an AutoHole- or Advance-special or not.. I'm told the original owner paid quite a bit of money to have it done.
How much re-building do you plan to do with it? I'd say atleast do what I did and go Edlebrock 351 Victor Jr. Alluminum heads with 400$ push rods ;)... and y'know... make it look decent :D Moroso rocker covers... paint the block ford racing blue... all that stuff good stuff :)
Mind you, your going at a used engine and I bought my block new... I'm just saying if you do it right it'll actually be a beast, not just sum POS pulled out of an Econoline :p *just joking around witcha*
Engine number will be at the bottom rear of the block just above the oil pan cant remember which side it is on but you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right the first time :p

The part number was on the right side. E3AE-6015-BA-17
If it was a re-man, say, from a parts place or some such...the casting number *may* only indicate the date the block, (and possibly heads, if they're original to the block, that is)

Yeah, probably a re-man with a date of '83. I was hoping there was a tiny chance that it might've been a newer roller block ('94-up and then only some of them, right?) since the block was replaced in '97, but alas no.
I thought all of the 351w blocks from 94 on were roller, but I may have read incorrect info.
I know in my 92 F-150 with 5.0, the block is drilled for the roller lifter spider....but...it's a 5.0 so :hick: LOL
Roller 351 blocks have a F4xxx casting number. All 351 used this block begnning with the '94 models, AFIK the Lightnings still used the flat tappet cam.
