Title: new time
Post by: Nate on August 18, 2006, 07:00:37 PM
R/T....597
60'.....2.099
330....6.015
1/8....9.247
MPH...77.27
1000..12.015
1/4....14.344
MPH...97.47

temp was mid to upper 70's and around 50% humidity

last year i ran 14.9s with around a 2.9sec. 60'.  this year with the tubular rear suspension, welded and re-inforced torqu boxes, and 275 drag radials i hoped to get under a 2second 60' but i couldnt launch that well. i have a stock t5 with just a king cobra clutch and shifter so i dont wanna blow it up... like my friends mustang just did without dumping it lol.

i was launching around 2-3k but it still bogged a bit, any suggestions? as i said before, i dont wanna blow the tranny untill i get a tko or something. also, i was shifting at around 4500rpm, felt like the power was dieing off around 5ish on the stock tac.

hints, tips, suggestions?

damm man here I am with a garage full of parts and your at atco :giggle:

Those are some pretty good times Nate. If you drove her little harder you would be in the 13's I think. I seen a mark 7 with t-5, 373's and stock HO run 14 flat all night years ago when I use go so I would think its in your driving.

Better launching and faster shifting I guess. Wait till I get my car back together and the new motor broken in. I'll meet you up there. It's going to take me alot of runs with the 5 speed to get to a 2 second 60 footers :rollin:

The T5 weak point is 3rd gear... Take Paulys advise and launch it a bit  higher. Watch that 3rd gear though, I busted one in a stock '86 Stang...

I launch at 3500 RPM with drag radials - I would try that. Nice time - you ought to be able to get into the 13's!

My buddy has a very radically setup 5.0 all motor that has dynoed 550.  He's shooting for 10.6's in his Mustang.  Suspension problems have kept him around 10.9

I've said it once, I'll say it again, that thing should be pulling strong a bit past 5k rpm...I'm still SD and am completely stock(stock HO) from throttle body to oil pan with nothing more than exhaust and my car pulls stong up to 5200 in first and second(even more so when I had those header mount glasspacks on).  If you're dumping the clutch when you launch, that could be part of your bogging problem...it needs just a LITTLE slip.

You've got plenty of airflow in with that GT-40 intake, CAI, MAF conversion...and plenty of airflow out with your exhaust set-up....check your timing?

Good luck man!

advance your timing up to about 14 and see how she likes it.  you need to get that 2.xx 60 down to get everything out of the car. plain and simple....bit your lip and launch it higher. itll take it. there are guys runnin stock t5's on blown 5.0's in mustangs. dont power shift it! but you can launch it higher.  when ya get bored of 14's go and buy a 255 lph fule pump a set of cloder plugs and hit her with a 125 shot of n20 hahahah. jk......kinda
