well, today a friend and i went to the junkyard in search of a few items, he wanted a header panel for a first gen taurus, i just wanted a bunch of stuff to pocket and throw in my stash of parts, after searching for a while, we come across a very nice, 91 taurus wagon
well, he gets started, ripping things apart, when it was clear that he didnt need help, i went to work looking for stuff to take, i took a few switches, pocketed some screws since i needed them, and some other odds and ends
i returned back to the taurus, hopped in the interior, looked around, locked onto the heat controls, turned the s, then grabbed my tools, turned some screws, and pulled the panel out, i faught with the cable for a good half hour, said fugg it, walked to a car with most of the dash missing and took it from there
so sometime soon, i get to do the taurus heater panel mod , i plan on documenting it in pictures, so i can submit to Eric and help him out, and ill be famous! :ies:
That mod is on my to do list as well. I got the heater panel but I am going to wait until it gets warm out to do it. With my luck I would mess it up and have no heat for a while.
its not a hard job, the hardest part will be the rear defroster switch, it has to be mounted somewhere, i have something in mind, but itll be the most time consuming part of the job
I keep meaning to look at the stock heater panel to compare the two but I'm too lazy and keep putting it off.
Been there, done that!! Go for it, it's not hard at all, looks great too. :ies:
how/where did you mount the rear defroster switch?
I used a defroster switch from a EATC heater control. I mounted where the firm ride switch would be. It looks factory, and works great. :ies: :ies:
(yea I know it says antenna, I haven't painted over that yet :wtf: )
thats where i plan on mounting mine, but i have the one from the taurus thats a bit bigger, so its going in the center of the panel, and im making a cover out of lexan
only thing different is im mounting mine in the stock location
Cougarman,
what is that switch from?
correction, removing the stock cable is the hardest, most time consuming part, been out there for a half hour, and have had no luck
i have every tool imaginable...other than a pair of small, needle nose pliers
It's from a EATC heater panel from an 88 Turbocoupe. :grinno:
alright, the panel is mostly in, i got fed up with messing with it, got it working, and the only thing holding it in right now is the radio surround
tomorrow i need to drill some holes, mount it up, try to re-route the cable, and take some more pics of it, i faught the cable, got pissed off, and before you know it i had the panel in for testing, so i didnt get many pics
ill have pics up soon
Cool :ies:
here are the pics of the panel in
:headbang: :headbang:
You finish mods way too fast, you suck. I've had a Taurus heater panel in my trunk for over a year. Now I suck.
Your 87 has a floor shifter? I though only the 88's had floor shifters.
Edit: Is that the turbo coupe?
He did the floor shifter too. He TC-ed up the car, but in real life it's only a 3.8 For now.
auto climate control
edit-, i didnt know there was a second page, for some reason i click the topic from the main page and rather than taking me to the last response it takes me to the first page of the topic :dunno:
Click the little down arrow next to the title. Takes you to the first unread post.
as far as i remember, all TC's and XR7's got a floor shifter of some sort, wether an auto or 5-speed
i put the floor shifter in my 3.8 car, yeah, it wasnt the most fun
Brian, if ya read more closely, youd realize you dont suck too bad, because its still not complete, its just chillin in there, held in by the radio surround
