Post by: Nate on August 06, 2006, 08:26:13 PM
anybody know how to safely remove the springs on the 87-88 hoods? it looks like maybe pry the one part up over the part its resting on and slide it off, but i dont want it flinging off and braking anything, or myself.

Collapse it after hood is off then wire tie it closed/shut then remove. It’s been a couple of years I think that’s what I did. Oyea when ting down be very very careful til its wired tied it could pop up and seriously injure you.

heat it with a torch when its streached and it should stay in that position.

anyways why remove them?  I thought they were better than having a prop rod in the way, but maybe you guys think differently.

i use them on my fiberglass hood  you just have to undo the little square clip and then you can move it up and down freely and use the arm as a hood prop

I have a set of red un-sprung hinges that I took off of my Bird when I put on the sprung hinges I got from a junk yard.  If you want them I can ship them to you.  I think that just changing the entire hinge assembly would be much easier than trying to remove the spring.
