well heres the deal guys. I am thinkin of buying a 5.0 ho engine from a 1990 markvii and put this engine in my 1988 t bird lx. The problem is ,
-do i have to change all the sensors? MAP, ACT, TAD, TAB, and TPS
-and if i do can i just use my standard 5.0 main harness??
- and since i have a digital dash on my t bird lx can i continue to use the oil pressure sending unit and water temprature sending unit??
- can i use the injector harness on the 5.0 ho that was on the mark vii??? or do i have to use my old one?
i read things on cool cats about this but im still not sure . I prefer finding out about this from a experienced person or a person who knows about this. I need help ASAP I really want to run this 5.0 ho. Please people help me out on this.
thank you in advanced.
You can use the sensors from the MArk. You need to make sure that both had temp & oil press gauges.
I'm not sure about the harness, I would just take the one from the engine in the cougar.
Hope this helps
what you mean by temp and oil press gauges, do you mean gauages that are on my dash . I have a digital dash so i think they are there correct? im not good with knowing these things :( explain please
also is the injector harness that is already on the 5.0 ho good to work or do i have to swap that one. and can i use the main engine harness that is already on the 5.0 ho?? on cool cats it said that i should use a tbird main engine harness.. im lost guys help please
well can i use the sensors from the mark or no, and do i need to change any senders like oil or temperature?? that is pretty much what i need to know . if anything else let me know
(((((remember im putting this 5.0 ho in my 88 t bird lx that has a digital cluster.))))
use the lincolns computer and long block with the intake as well, and all the tbird stuff on that. should be just about plug and play.
im not sure about the digi dash.
so i use my
-old main harness
-my sensors (not the mark sensors)
- the computer that comes with the ho
-use the intake and injector harness that comes with it
correct???
and what about the temperature and oil sending units?? which do i use the one from the mark or the one from my car. and were is it located???
what about teh temperature and oil sending units
thats what id do. you have the cherry for the HO swap, the 88 with the SO 5.0. the swap should be pretty un eventfull. dont forget the exaust.
everything from the bird should work on the mark engine.
If you have the full digital dash like the MarkVII does then you can use the MarKVII sensors. I would use the ones you have though as you know if they work or not. The computer from a 5.0 HO equipped MarkVII is of the speed density variety which is good if you wanna keep things simple for now so absolutely grab it. The only downside to the MarkVII processor is the speed limiter which can be disabled by leaving the VSS signal wire off (read more on that here: http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=9084&highlight=speed+limiter )
the cherry? whats the cherry? 88 so 5.0 ?? whats that??
But do I have to change the temperature and oil sending units?? do i use ones from my old non ho 5.0 ?? or what??
for this ho i will be putting bbk shortie headers, h pipe with 4 cats, magnaflow mustang exhaust, and a bbk intake filter system for now. then do rear and other stuff who knows. but let me know if i have to change the temperature and oil sending units. it says that on cool cats but i dunno which to use and i dunno how they look either or were they are located.
are all mustangs wit 5.0 ho's like mark vii . there so much things t0 change cause it came out this car. well i can use the sensors soince i have a digital dash but i shouldnt use the main harness correct? but i can use the sensors and if i leave the wire off you mean pull it out or cut it and will it ruin the engine??
Do you have the FULL digital dash or the base one? If you have the full one you can use the MarkVII sensors. Like I said better to use yours 'cause you know they work, but if the MarkVII one's are the same you may as well snag them for possible replacements in the future.
86-88 Mustang 5.0 HO's are speed density (the only exception being 1988 California Emissions cars which are Mass Air)
89-93 Mustang 5.0 HO's are Mass Air
All Mark VII 5.0 HO's are speed density.
SO stands for standard output. Different cam (with different firing order), heads, upper intake manifold, throttle body, and fuel injectors.
BTW where in Queens are you? I'm in Nassau County.
0oo0 im in sunnyside queens basically next to woodside . i live by queens blvd
0oo0 you live near innes his name is billy. well jea then ima forget bout that mark vii ho swap ima get a 89 and up 5.0 ho then .
86-88 5.0 cars are the easiest cars to do the HO swap in. Just unplug and remove all the sensors on the motor in your car, unbolt the motor, and remove it. Then just drop in the HO, bolt it up, plug your sensors in, change the computer to a HO speed density one and vola a HO T-bird LX.
