Title: Sticky Throttle
Post by: capitlj on August 03, 2006, 12:24:27 PM
My throttle has stuck at wide open three times in the last day its pretty scary i think it something on the floor so i took my floormats out and looked for anything but i didnt see anything and i'm going to spray some wd40 in the cable shroud and on the return springs but if that doesnt take care of it is there anything else that could cause this.

Look under the hood and make sure you haven't lost a return spring or have one sticking.

My old 3.8 would do that on occasion.  Check to make sure your throttle cable and/or TV cable are not wrapped up or binding on anything as well.

You said it only stuck at wide-open, so floor it.... with the engine OFF.
Check the throttle plate/bore for crud, the cable for fraying, the throttle shaft holes for wear that could let the shaft go off-center.

So does it still stick after you took the floormats out?

Nope no sticking since i took out the floormats they were getting pushed up under the pedals and i have aftermarket pedals and the bolts holding the accelerator pedal down were wedging in the mats so im going to work something out with hooks to hold them in place and replace the pedals.
