Title: My first CAT DRIVE!!!
Post by: Samantha on July 29, 2006, 01:38:46 PM
So today I finally got to pull the[my dad's white 85 cougar XR7. Which was at cj 05 not this year.] car to be up the drive way. I know it's not much, but hey i've never driven before and this might be my car in the near future. Then I gave it a nice wash so it's not dirty anymore, it is white after all.[My dad's been saying that I should wash the car for a while and it's finally a nice day outside.]
I'm hopefully going to be getting a job at target down the street so I can get my permit [temps.] so I can start driving.
And that would be the car I'd be driving in. And maybe if my dad is nice I will be driving it to cj 07 and he will be driving the 85 cougar gs [the black one.]

I'TS SO EXCITING!:D :D :D :D !!!

Yeah, I remember when I got my cougar 4 years ago. I had mine just a few months before I got my license though so I started driving it soon thereafter.

I had never driven in a car that went 30 MPH by itself before. Yep, gotta love throttle body injection....

Good for you. I have been driving since I was three (64' biscane into 70' nova, totaled nova).

Have had my license for six years, my cat for about six month and still haven't really driven it. So kudos to you. :headbang:

You lucky bum getting to start out in a Cougar. Well my first car was my Cougar but it was delayed.
I started by borrowing my mom's '99 Malibu. I didn't find my Cougar until 4 months after I got my license. Wow, I've almost had it for 5 years now.

I'm sure your dad is going to tell you this so much you'll be sick of it but be careful.
Remember it won't be so much you as it will the other drivers on the road.

Oh, and good luck on getting the job. Just be sure to park on an end spot or park in the middle of nowhere.
Have to protect from dings you know ;)

my cat is my first car and i hated it for the first year but they grow on you fast, since your dad had them im sure you love them by now.

First car means accidents. so be careful for sure. i thought it would never happen to me but look what i did wreck a friends car then hit a fire truck not a month later. Sh*t happens so what what the people around you are doing and make sure that you are watching what the people around you are doing even the least expected vehicle to do something stupid (uhm... firetruck..cough cough.)

everyone will tell you this but it wont sink in till it happens.

I think I was about that age when I got in my dad's 50' something car too. I didn't wreck, but I sure scared them pretty good.

Yes, be careful, but don't be scared. It's the scared to be behind the wheel drivers that scare me worse than a drunk. At least the drunk is a bit more predictable.

I bought my first cougar when I was 15 years old. I sold my gokart and mowed grass all summer. It was a 88 LS 3.8 I brought it to CJ 02 I believe. I purchased it at 15 so I had a year to make it nice.

Sam I'm glad your interested in cougars.. (old grandparents cars). As Eric said this week when we met up. "It's glad to see our generation taking interested in these cars" I think that's what he said.
But that's cool Sam. Pictures of the clean car would be nice :)

Yeah that's the car. I'm going to start taking care of that car. Make it look like my dad's other 85 cougar. Hah yeah right like that will happen. But I want to wax that car so bad. But I have to rub it out first. It's some work but I have nothing better to do really. A newer hobby. But it's looking good for the job i'm gunna go fill out my application tomorrow. And if I get the job I will deff. be getting my permit to drive. Which means cj 07 watch out i'm driving!!!

So I should stay off that particular sidewalk right? Just kidding.

Just remeber to tell the friends to shut up when they want you to do something different.

Daniel

Tired of the advice yet?? lol

Maybe I can make it to my first cat jam at the age of 18 with my second cougar. I got my first cat last year (age 16), but as I said I decided it is in too bad of shape and I posted the 84 Im looking at now.

Just drive like me, no accidents yet far (knocks on wood), and I will be carefull with the 84 (I would have to shoot myself if I wrecked that).

Good Luck with your permits, and maybe I'll see you at CJ 07, we can start a Juniors Club. (I just realized I'll be 18 tho :( )

If someone was on the hood of my T-bird like that they would get shot. Oh the scratches, oh the scratches you're leaving behind:yuck: . ;)

Nice XR7. Just be careful and you should be ok. Learn how to drive on a beater in case something happens. Then when you're done learning you can uh, crash it into stuff:giggle:

I didn't leave any scratches behind, I swear! I'll either be driving that or the family van. But if my mom needs the van I'll be driving that. But when I take the test to get my actual license I have to drive that car. Because you aren't allowed to drive a van, you have to drive a car. And it's better that car then the 85 gs!

Why the GS a manual?? If so you get pitty points from the instructor!

I took mine in a manual, and passed with out knocking the instrutor out. lol

But good luck on the permit and job.

I wish we had manuals for the driving test. My first time driving a auto was on the test. I felt like such a dumb ass trying to find the clutch.

Anyways, I took out a firehydrant and almost killed a subaru, and all I had to do for both was get a new door. But be careful.

When dad bought the Explorer, was super funny to see him trying to find the clutch, he used to drive manual cars for about 7 years or so...sometimes i do the same....

Nice car you have there, Samantha. Those are becoming rare to the day, so drive carefully and keep the car in good shape. You`ll find with the time how great they are, and maybe how happy (or angry...) those machines can made of you when you drive them.

At least my car made me happy when i drove every now and then....

lol...  everyone else's advice is good advice i guess...  but honestly the best thing u can do is stay calm...  which i'm sure u can easily do...  its driving not brain surgery...  plus ur in an auto car...  only thing u gotta remember with the Cougars and T-birds is that they're heavy cars...  just remember to take it easy going into turns on wet surfaces...  and if ur driving them in the winter :nono: go easy on them...

Thanks Daniel. I went in for the application yesterday. It took me an hour to fill out. I was getting antsy sitting there in front of the computer screen. But I probably won't get the job for a while becuase they are looking for people to work over nighters which i'm not old enough to do. So probably in a couple weeks they will be hiring reg. people because people will be leaving becuase school starts in like 3 weeks.

But the gs is like the best car i've ever seen [well in the all stock class]. So it's better to drive the van or the xr7 incase there would be an accident.

Everyone should already know that my dad's gs is like nearing perfection. If I got into an accident with that car i'd be shot. Probably killed. Do you not agree?! I'm not even allowed to think about driving that car, EVER! I'm not even allowed to touch it or lean up against it.

Yeah I know to take it easy. And I'm very calm about most things. I think I might be a little nervous but that's what breathing is for! I hope i'll be a good driver!

Just remeber to always check your blind spots and never get mad when someone else cuts in front of you. (At least not in the cats)

Also when in doubt don't pull out.
