Title: maryland event?

Ok, so maybe we should start talking?

well, theres been talk, so i figured, we might as well have an actual thread, rather then steal others. so...any ideas on a maryland event?
i never been to one before, so i really am lost as to where it would be and all that, but i figured this thread would get the ball rolling.

Well, I can't think of any place we can hold one. I guess staying in the Balto. area would be best. I'm shoved in the Northeastern most part of the state which would be a hell of a hike for most of you guys. Although there is a nice park in North East right on the water. Not a lot of parking there though.

Shawn said something about possibly getting another meet together at Patapsco State Park. The location was good and it was a nice place.

1st saturday of August would be this weekend

Maybe we should get an email circulating to see who all would be interested. Once we find who is coming or may come from wherever, we can determine a better centralized point for everyone.

Is this just a get together or like an weekend event.  There are a couple of parks in and around Southern MD even close to DC, theres even a racetrack "Buds Creek"...............

Just a meet on one day, not a weekend event...unless there is a big interest in it I guess.

Before I bounce emails around, how about some date ideas?

I'm available the following Saturdays or Sundays...
AUG:
19-20
SEPT:
2-3
16-17

It is possible for me to do another weekend date but I'll have to rework my work schedule. No biggie though.

I can't do this Saturday.  Let's just say I have a car show going on.  I would like to come to this as well.  I would be coming from Westminster which is in Carroll County.
As someone else mentioned, I prefer later in the afternoon/evening.

Buds Creek (MIR) would be one hell of a ride for those out in Cecil County, such as Fred, and Westminister, like Cougars 2 Go, the Patapsico Stake Park woiuld be perfect since its in a more central area of the state. The hard part is, i really dont have time to organize anything this year, since i work 11 hours a day, and when i get off of work, everything is closed. If someone could call up the park, and see how we go about reserving a pavillion, that would rock.

We'd be aiming for the Avalon area, which is accessable from Rt1 and a few other area's.

Man, its gonna be hot!

I thought we were in site 22 last time?  That was a good site as we spilled over into the parking of the sites across the street from it.  But could be bad if someone has a big gig in one of the other shelters and takes up those spaces for themselves.

They warn that the # of people rule is "Strictly enforced"

I will probably be tied up the whole Sept except for 9/2-3, but don't let me stop this..
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
From the Patapsco web site:

Sites 1,10,26 for 20 people $20.  These sites have a bathroom nearby.
Available:
  8/19 Site 1
  9/2 Site 1
  9/3 Site 1,10,26
  9/16 Site 1
  9/17 Site 1,26
  9/23 Site 1,10, 26
  9/24 Site 1, 10, 26

Site 1 seems like its always available, whats the deal with that one?
---------------------------------------------
Sites 22,33,46,61,92 for 10 people for $10 (No bathroom nearby)
Available:
  8/19,20 all
  9/2 46,61,92
  9/3 all
  9/16,17 all
  9/23,24 all

Hi Guys;

Here's a suggestion. :)

Junk yard runs have been pretty popular with the Lincoln Mark VII Club lately.  Basically we meet in the morning, have breakfast somewhere, then hit the yard.

It's been years since I've been to Mt Airy, but I do know there is a yard there that used to be called Auto Parts Exchange.  Back then, I had a GM G-body car, and that yard was a G-body goldmine, and prices were good too.  I ~think~ it's a Crazy Ray's now.

I think Eldersburg is not far from Mt Airy, and Jimmy Cone has cruises one Saturday a month.  How about picking a weekend when Jimmy Cone is having a cruise and make it a day of playing with cars.  I'm positive there is some restaurant off that Mt Airy exit where everyone could meet, pig out on breakfast food, hit the yard, then take in a cruise.

Just throwing an idea out there. :)

I'm sure Glen Burnie has some sort of alternatives like this also.  There is a cruise EVERY Saturday night at some shopping center near the MVA on Ritchie Hwy.

Fred knows all about these "all day" events, he's great at them.

Thanks Rick.

Okay, if I'm not mistaken didn't we meet back in '05 at site 26 or was it 22?
I remember a bathroom nearby and the playground and pavilion across the street.
either way...

It seems any saturday would be the best day to do this from reading the posts on here. September sounds like a winner so we have the following dates...

2
16
23
30

I am totally free and clear on the 2nd, 16th, and 30th.
I'm scheduled to work on the 9th and 23rd but I may be able to take off.

I'm looking at the Patapsco site and the pavilions for $10 are limited to 10 people and the $20 pavilions are limited to 20 people. Judging by the looks on here we will have more than 10 people in attendence so we would need the larger pavilion.

So what dates are good everyone else?

Bondocougar, how did you find what's available each date? I went through the 'make a reservation' route but the results were always the same. Maybe it's just me.

Thanks for the input as well John.
There are paved parking spots right next to each pavilion so luckily that isn't an issue.
Bathrooms are pretty covered since the 20 people pavilions are near them.

Food, I don't know. Let's get a date and time set first.

Lets not worry too much about junkyard runs or anything as of yet. Many of us havnt seen eachother, or seen eachothers cars, or anything, and like the last time, we were able to stand, BS, and have a good time without running around. I figure that we need a day to chill, get to know eachother, and figure out eachothers actual interests before we plan all of this running around.

I only fit in on 9/2 or 9/30, and it sounds like 9/2, 9/16 works for everyone. So 9/2?

Quote
Bondocougar, how did you find what's available each date? I went through the 'make a reservation' route but the results were always the same. Maybe it's just me.

You have to click/select stuff until you get to the button labled "Show Available Shelters"

You have to enter the dates, then it lists the shelters, then you have to select the shelter group (like GLEN ARTNEY SHELTER #1, #10, #26 are always listed), then select the day, then click "show available shelters", and only then does it show which shelter of the group is available. Pretty screwy.

Looks like only site 1 is available for 9/2, it is near a bathroom and supports 20.  I don't know if site 1 is as good as the other sites...

The park is just off Route 1/Washington Blvd.  The entrance is not shown on the map below (it runs next to the river on the map), but its right off South St after you turn from Route 1:

http://us.rd.yahoo.com/maps/extmap;_ylt=AvWWgKjflib5xsYoOenm4otkDLMF/*-http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=South+St+At+Sutton+Ave&csz=Halethorpe%2C+MD+21227&state=MD&uzip=21227&ds=n&name=&desc=&lat=39.2212&lon=-76.7052&mlt=39.2212&mln=-76.7052&zoomin=yes&BFKey=&mag=2 (http://"http://us.rd.yahoo.com/maps/extmap;_ylt=AvWWgKjflib5xsYoOenm4otkDLMF/*-http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=South+St+At+Sutton+Ave&csz=Halethorpe%2C+MD+21227&state=MD&uzip=21227&ds=n&name=&desc=&lat=39.2212&lon=-76.7052&mlt=39.2212&mln=-76.7052&zoomin=yes&BFKey=&mag=2")

Directions:

Avalon/Glen Artney/Orange Grove/Lost Lake Areas - From the Beltway (I-695) Take Rt. 1 (Exit 12-A) toward Elkridge. Follow Rt. 1 South about 3 miles to South St. Turn right. Park entrance is on the left.

From I -95 take I-195 to Rt. 1 (Exit 3) toward Elkridge to South St. Turn right. Park entrance is on the left.

From Howard County follow Rt. 1 through Elkridge and into Baltimore County. Turn left onto South St. Park entrance is on the left.

9/2 works for me.

The only unfortunate thing with a "rain date" is that once you rent the pavilion, you can cancel but they will charge a fee.

Okay, say we get the pavilion for $20. Does it sound fair to you guys if we split the cost of the rental? In other words, if we get 20 people, everyone pays $1. If we get 10 people, everyone pays $2 etc.

if i had time to get over there, id drop 20 right now, its a very small price to pay for parking for 20, when you go in the city and pay a dollar for an hour...

the 2nd is cool with me

Well, there is one difficulty, i havnt had time to reserve a place, and the other part of the difficulty, is that its for a holiday weekend, so they were probably booked for a while.

We can do what we did last year, just drop in and park wherever.

"they were probably booked for a while...."

So I take it they are booked.  Dropping in may work out anyway since there won't be a whole bunch of us.

Hell, there are parks all over the place.  I'm sure we could find another one if needed.

The '88 decided to cease running again so even if I got it started I wouldn't trust it for the trip and the '86 still has to be inspected, tagged and whatnot. Besides,  I'm not off again to work on any of the cars until the 2nd.

It was built and then bought by me 13 years later. That's whats wrong with it

I don't know anymore. I think it'll be seeing time under a car cover in the back of the driveway for the next year or so until I can save enough money to fix everything together. Too many little things going on with it at once.

I'm not available for the 23rd either. Actually the only Saturday I have available now is the 16th.

Every  day of every weekend for me is taken up by something. The 16th is the only day I have nothing planned until October 14-15.
I hate working weekends

Anyway, you all figure out what works best for you. If I can't make it, I can't.
