Ah ha!  A Before & After of the rarest kind!  Did you guys ever check to see if the VIN's are close to each other?  An assembly line reunion perhaps?

I would so tow something with that one on the left.  Just to see the looks I would get.  :rollin:

Yep, life is tough right now. ;)

Here's the weird part: as we're digging into the cars we're finding a LOT of differences between them. Those things may not mean much to the average Cougar owner but to convertible owners, it's telling us that at some point Car Craft either had two separate lines making these cars using different parts, or they streamlined things toward the end.

For example, the boot on the left car snaps onto the chrome lip that surrounds the convertible top area. Mine has a plastic piece that slips under. Also, the Car Craft logo is very different between the two console switch plates.

The thing is, both cars were converted in March 1986 (#30 for the left, mine is #54). The VIN's are about 11,000 cars off. I don't know...it's going to take me a day or two to wade through the info and document things. I've found almost a dozen differences so far.

Actually, I felt bad, since we could have helped him out if he had wanted it delivered. Ah well, he had a good story to tell!

It was really nice seeing that picture "Live"!! NICE!

I saw that also in the picture.  I just thought that your Cat had been upgraded to the slip-under type instead of snaps.

We could really mess with people if we added what's behind door #3...but that's for another time. ;)

Well True enough. That would be the icing on the cake. However, if the item behind door #3 were to be presented it would still not beat the coolness of having 2 convertibles under the same roof. Nevertheless, what's behind door #3 is still nothing short of amazing.

The only thing to beat the coolness of what is behind door #1 and #2 is if door #3 had an MN12 convert behind it.

Mmm...I have never seen one of those on the street (although a few probably do exist) but I agree, that would be killer.

Door #3 remains closed until the appropriate time. But enough about that...this thread is about door #1 and the droptop twins. It is very possible that, aside from the manufacturing company that's long been out of business, this could be one of the first times that two white '86 convertibles are under the same roof.

Now next year...we have to work on Greybeard to bring his back out (on a trailer, of course), and also the local guy with his burgundy one. Then we can have 4 out of the 89 produced in my front lawn. ;)

Ok, so did you buy that second 'vert, or is it the same one that showed up last year for the first time? Man I wish I could've made it...

*punches self in testicles* :yuck:

The second convertible is not the same one that showed up last year. It actually made the trip to Cat Jam from Tucson, Arizona and is going home to Niagara Falls, Canada into the garage of yours truly :)

Nevermind, beat me to it! LOL

I want to know what's behind door #3!! Email me, I'd like to hear about it!

It's not one of the coveted 87-88 convertibles, is it? Or was that one only a prototype? I remember one on Ebay many years ago...

With over 300 Million people here in the States and only 89 of these Convertibles, I bet it must suck for ya'll that a foreigner comes in and takes ohe away, eh? :flip:

The story will come once I'm back home. I'm still in Ohio at Eric's. Can't tell an unfinished story.

Umm... That Greybeard's son has a blue one as well.  That would make 5 in your driveway.  Now, out of the 89 made, how many are accounted for in total?

That's if we can get Greybeard's son to bring the car out...but yeah, hell, that would be sweet.

Honestly I don't have a solid guess as to the number of convertibles left. I would hope that most of them still are, since you have to take special care of the top. There's a good chance that only a handful ever got wrecked or rusted out enough to junk.

What are you going to do with a convertible in Canada? You can only drive with the top down what, 2 days a year?;)

My bet is with Karen, because i've SEEN door number 3.

Also, if you'll notice, my convertible (, I love the sound of that!) is now sporting Eric's old painted grille and headlight bezels.
