Ok i know for a fact that you just cant throw a supercharger on a base 3.8L V6. the 3.8L SC was built completely different but some jackass here in wesley chapel doesnt wanna believe me... :flip: i mean he's probably mad cuz he drives a dodge. he also said he had a buddy that threw turbocoupe turbocharger on his base 3.8 u . ok u know what he basically just called all you guys idiots. he doesnt know the finer points of the 3.8L V6. i was just seeing about that
Huh?
the guy swore that you can just throw on a supercharger from a 3.8 SC motor
Why waste your time talking to idiots?
Tell him to prove it. Then watch him pick up pieces of his motor :D
Yes, the 3.8SC will bolt onto a normal 3.8. There are some subtle differences, but the hard points are the same. The problem is that the normal 3.8 isn't built to handle a supercharger and will very quickly grenade itself.
...Oh, and the 3.8 doesn't even have any fine points :D
what i meant by finer points is the flaws such as the head gasket issue they had for that motor
The other day I got out the chiltons manual and looked at the internal specs that are listed in the book. There are several differences. One being the rod journals are bigger. Also compression is 8.2 vs 8.7 in the regular 3.8. I'm sure it could be made to work but you would at minimum change the pully to reduce the boost. Even then the longevity of the motor would be greatly reduced. I'm wondering if the SC has iron or allum heads?
As far as I know, at least through the SC period, they were all aluminum heads, cast iron blocks.
yea thats it... someguy told me that since the two metals expand at different rates itll cause a blown head gasket.
It's more the fact that it is just a py engine design.....
The coolant passages are too close to the combustion chamber.
I thought the regular 3.8's had alluminum heads (sp sorry) maybe? Oh well...
And IIRC they're "short" a headbolt or two.....
