Post by: RedCat96' on July 22, 2006, 11:31:28 PM
What type of rear end does the 96' V8 cougar have...?

7.5 OR 8.8

reason i'm asking is i want to put 3:73 gears in and im not sure which set to buy.

Also anyone who has done this mod, how much did it improve on your 0-60 time and 1/4 mile?

Thanks guys for whoever can respond back!!

V8 MN12s had 8.8s.  I put 3.73s in mine and took off about 3/4 of a sec in the 1/4.  Never measured 0-60.

I dropped about 1/2 second off of my 1/4 mile E.T....but I think it still has more in it...I would think that with good traction 3/4 of a second wouldn't be out of the question...plus you guys with the heavier MN12's need as much gear as you can get....I say go with 4.10's.

Good luck,
Don

4.10s cant calibrate the speedo cheaply.  3.73s you only need a 23 tooth speedo gear.

Speedo, schmeedo. Get the SCT tuner package, improve your shift points and shift quality, get good gear, and don't replace anything else (I believe with the SCT unit, you just tell it what gears you have, and then you don't have to make any other changes). 4.10's will be best for performance, but may reduce gas mileage a bit more.
