a local dealer has been getting in Ford P71 cruisers by the dozen...there was 50 of them last week...you should see the back lot...like 10-20 old cruisers...I'm in the market for one too...I could luck out!!! :D looking to spend 2k to get one
I have 1!!! 1990 Crown Victoria P71
cool man...my bro had a '88 Gran marquis that was a detectives car...I'm actually looking for a '92-current style with the 4.6 v8 though...my uncle has a Caprice 9c1 with the 350 TBI...fast car...but I like the P71 handling better
It's the best I've felt in a big car
straight...I test drove a '00 P71 that thing was awesome
Well, mine is a 90 and it's old school kickass. The look, the feel...
the sheer horror on peoples faces when you race them lol
Nothing like killin a ricer in a fullsize with 5 freinds in the car
And I'm running open headers so I can see the fear thing

Aww hell, my work has about 105 CVPI"s out back (could be more, could be less, our shop's contract is to hold 105). I'd like to have a new CVPI, but I'd never own a used one. Those cars are brought in absolutely beat.
The 05's and 06's feel real heavy and slower than the 03-04's. This is what happens when you add things like adjustable foot pedals. I don't like what they did to the column shifter or the key turn on the ignition either.
The thing I hear the most complaints about is that ed seat belt chime. Ford should have done what Dodge did (make the chime go off only when the vehicle is moving), but instead the thing goes nuts every 30 seconds as long as the engine is running. A royal pain for the cop sitting in the car using the computer or writing tickets...
I don't think I've laid eyes on any 06's yet - hell, we're still doing up 03's. The RCMP bought a shiznitload back then and they still aren't all in service yet. We have done up a bunch of 04's and 05's, but there are still several brand new 03's on the lot...
Seat belt extenders take care of the seat belt chime.....
well I went to the dealership Sat afternoon...gonna hammer out the details monday...lets just say "they want the cars off the lot" and offered 1700 for my pickup;)
I got a 91 crown vic I used drive all the time. Station wagons kick ass.
Dont cop cars come from the factory with those :flip:
Good luck. Maybe you'll be able to do something with your trade-in, and if they're feeling generous you'll strike a deal.
Don't listen to Fila. These cars AREN'T fast. A 16 second 1/4 mile time is beat by about 3/4 of the new cars on the road. That and "they remove the Interceptor before they sell them" :shoothead
The 87-91's with a 5.0 were good for the same 155 HP that most other 5.0's of the generation were good for. That translates to vision blurring 17.5 second 1/4 mile times. If you get "lucky" and get a 351 car, you'll get maybe a half second improvement, to 17.0 seconds!
Don't buy one because it's fast, buy one because they're a hell of a deal for the money, for a late-model, full size car.
Sorry guys, but just like most Thunderbirds and Cougars, if you want a fast Crown Vic, you're going to do what Ford never did, and build it.
When did I say something about CVPI's being fast. I said they were faster them some, not a Ferrari. They are good, solid cars. After I get the thunderchick squared away I want to do somethings to the Vic'. 1fstcat, wana help me with some idea's seeing as you have 2 PI's and seem to know much more then me.
Maybe, but they're not made for me!
deal fell through...they sold them ALL to one company...I'm looking at a '96 for $1900 *retail* BODY IS MINT which is strange for Maine. gonna sell my truck for $1700 obo probably will get 1300-1500 for it lol...not perfect...but dependable work truck...I'm getting a CVPI because it's a crown vic with factory duals/suspension ect...I will modify it...but it'll be a cruiser not a racer...the TBird is my "race-car"
That's not a bad deal for a clean '96, if it's nice. I bought my daily driver for $1000 (administrative car with carpet, never had a spotlight), and painted it for another $500, added the '98+ brakes and did some other minor repairs.
I like the 96's and 97's the most, of all the recent bodies, mostly because of the better gas mileage. The spark plug wires seem to be more reliable, as well. Of course, there's plusses and minusses with all the different years, so most people will feel differently about each year model.
Sure, Fila. I'd be happy to consult on such a project. You'll also find a great "Box Body" forum at http://www.crownvic.net.

I have the purchase order...just waiting for the bank to OK it...
HOWEVER I didn't get the '96...a guy bought it as I walked through the door!!!! So the owner gave a heck of a deal on a '01 CVPI...$4000 139k retail was about $6000 It is dark blue...sweet looking/driving car
Anyone ever heard of arizona cops usung cougars as a hotrod interceptor? one guy i work with from tuscon claims they do.
don't know, but my county has an SN95 Mustang, and the state patrol uses all black Dodge Magnums.
Theres a car lot not far from me that regularly sells cop cars between $500 and $2000. Almost got a '96 for $750 body was decent but the interior was tore to hell.
Which body is the SN95? did that come after the fox styles or the pointier one after that?
it's like a 99 mustang coupe. And it has D.A.R.E. on the sides.
sn95 is 94-04. They got restyled in 99 and thats the 'pointy' ones.
I would like to get me a 2003-2004 P71 for like $3,000-$4,500 in good shape with kind of low miles Got to find me some car to get a set of FR500s for.
Hope you get one soon for a good price.
I know the local mounties had a few MN12 Thunderbirds as undercover cars (including one in that weird colour-changing purple, nothing like drawing attention to an undercover car). They're all long gone now, though, as the newest one would be 10 years old...
So when they sell a police interceptor, do they strip the motor back to stock or sell as is?
AFIK the engines are basically stock with dual exaust and some add on severe duty parts, silicone hoses, oil cooler etc... You get many of the same parts with a trailer tow package(including the dual exhaust)...
And if you are talking Stang those are also stock with just some heavy duty add ons...
No i mean the hardcore police station hotrod models that they use to catch street racers and hotrods on the run. My friend from tuscon claims they have cougars for that down there. Maybe cuz they're heavier to do more damage if they have to clip the runner.
From what a FLM service manager friend told me when I asked him about the "Police Interseptor" package. The engine has a more aggressive tune to it and that the various shops were supposed to detune them before resale to the public. The handling/cooling package is supposed to have slightly higher rates/capacities. Just like Ford has a "Severe OffRoad Package" only available to oil companies, Foreign country security companies. Those trucks are not available to the public period.
The CVPI engines and tuning are the same as the civvy models, except as Tom noted (heavy duty cooling, etc). I believe the speed limiter has been "tuned" out of them as well, but basic engine tuning is the same. I build police cars for a living, and I also "unbuild" them to get them ready for auction once decommissioned. There is no "police" calibration. CVPI's also have the usual rubber floors, vinyl back seats, disabled rear inner door handles and windows, de-chromed interior parts such as door handles, and exterior door side molding delete.
If there are any police stations that have "hot-rodded" vehicles they either did the hot-rodding themselves or had it done in the aftermarket. Some police departments also use vehicles that they seize as enforcement vehicles, so if they nab a street racer it's not out of the question that they have a car set up for street racing.
Correct
Funny you mentioned this. We have ONE at work with carpet. The first time I sat in it I was slightly baffled.....
