Title: TC 8.8 rearend fox stang axles
Post by: chrome302jr on July 17, 2006, 12:29:33 PM
Finally swapped out my axles in my TC 8.8 rearend with 9in drum brakes with some fox stang axles. Everything worked great, while I was at it I installed new drums/shoes and the motorsport springs. I was running Weld draglites with 5.5BS but now run 4.5BS and as you can see it fits perfectly in the wheelwell.

The motorsport springs didnt lower the front as much as Id like though, might have to cut a coil to get it lower. But the rear is the height I want it.

I used the stang axles because the 7.5 tbird axles I was using were too long and not allowing the drum brakes to fit properly onto the shoes. Also the axles did not quite seal right even with axle saver bearings spaced outward. The stang axles were shorter by about 3/4inch to allow proper spacing. Evidently, a TC rear end is the same width as a stang rear end, however the axles on the TC are wider to allow for disc brakes.

lol...  I noticed the same thing... He just swapped out the front and the hood...  Personally, I woulda gone for the 8'8 rear-end out of a T-5 T-coupe with the disc brakes but a ford 9' should do fine.  The car has a nice stance as is tho so I wouldnt go messing around with your coils...  But thats just my personal opinion...  good luck tho

He is using an 8.8 out of a TC. First sentence. :)

He converted to drums out of preference I suppose.

I believe most of the brake hardware was missing on the TC rear when Ronnie got it...

Yeah, pretty much, and at the time the rear disc break conversion was low on the priority list. I really dont have a problem with drum brakes other than I would never run an open spoke wheel to show them lol.

I have to admit that a nice big set of slotted rotors behind some 18s looks  good.
