I was heading down a gravel road with some of my guys to start construction of a 400ft tower for a cell phone company in northern Alberta...the road has a long curve to it going to my left, as we came around the bend some dumbass was doing about 140kph towards us around the bend right in the middle of the road. when we seen each other he couldnt get out of the way in time and plowed into my side just before the drivers door. All i remember is airbags and thats about it! At least my guys were ok as i am firm with the seatbelt use in my company vehicles. Poopy thing is i just bought the 06 chev 3/4 tonne 5 days earlier and she was wrote off. His insurance is on the hook for that one thank god.

Ya when i searched for myself i seen the nice drawn pics and etc then i scroled down to the real life photos... when i seen that i had to turn my head away as it was waaaay to yucky for me. I can look at other peoples boo-boos but that turned me off like right now! The part that sucks is i only have 1 limb that is working right now. I have been told i will be as good as new...around Christmas. Lots of T3 and perkasets though!

Ouch! Thank goodness for air bags. Get better soon, and good luck with physical therapy. I thought my knee surgery was bad ... but it definitely got worse once they started bending it. :yuck:

Good job you were driving that 3/4 ton. Imagine how you'd have made out if you were in a car...

He was in a dually ford 1 tonne with a flat deck carrying a couple of quads, i guess the quads flew quite aways into the bush after impact. I wish i had pics of the mess just to see what the trucks looked like. I am sure i will see pics in the near future.

It just good to see that you will make it through, and have as close to 100% mobility as possible.

But yeah, why was the dude going so fast!!!

Wow.  Glad you can still walk and all that.  I'm betting it's safe to say you wouldn't have fared as well if you were in a car.

Lots of people drive way to fast on the gravel roads way up north for 2 reasons 1) not a cop within 2-3 hrs. 2) Often guys working in the oilpatch have 2-8 hr drive home after a 3-4 week stint in camp so needless to say ...need to get laid:D , may have been a dry camp:cheers:  , not there vehicle:flip:  , 18-20 years old and are not using their touqe:nono: so its not that uncommon to do 70-90 mph. Keep in mind these are very wide gravel roads built with rig moves and heavy equipment in mind. I must say i've been there myself....15-20 years ago!

lol! maybe but i think that if anything that should have made him puke cheese:yuck: From what i heard today the driver in that vehicle is in worse shape than myself....no seatbelt, hopefully he will be alright i guess he is only 18 and only had his learners liscence, the vehicle owner was passed out in the pass seat at the time of the accident. The investigation is now complete and was revealed that i was not at fault in anyway. Soon i will be able to replace that truck, so at least i can look forward to that.

How long did it take the EMT's to get to you?
How far to the nearest hospital?
Title: Have been in hell
Post by: 4mykid on July 18, 2006, 04:06:14 PM
The nearest hospital was about 2.5 hrs by vehicle through nothing but bush and bumpy roads, there is air ambulance but unless your dying... I was lucky there was a camp ambulance about a half hour away with an emergency med crew that came to help us out after someone else 2 wayed the camp for help, they also delivered myself to hospital in Grande Praire.I am assuming that the same happened for the young kid but not sure as i dont remember much untill the med crew came then I start to remember bits and pieces. I just know the ride sucked.

Boy you gotta be tough to live in the north country.

Actually i live in a city of a million people (Calgary)that is about 10 hr drive or about 500 miles south from where the accident happened. The bottom half of Alberta is really no different from where you probably live, the north half mind you is nothing but bush, moose, oilpatch and natives. But i still like to think im tough:D
