Title: replacing a gas tank.
Post by: matttherat on July 16, 2006, 08:03:08 PM
Edit: nevermind the question I just asked, I figured it out..

Now, the place where the other side's gast tank strap attaches( toward the front of the car) is rusted out. I think im going to buy a strap of metal and make a new whole and bend my own strap.. would there be any downsides to that.. theres none i could think of.

I did that on two of my cars.  I used a piece of all-thread rod and bolted it up through the front part of the trunk floor.  For good measure I even cut a square piece of steel (probably 2"x2") to act as a washer.

I was thinking of just putting a hole in the brace that used to hold it that rusted out, but I don't know how long that would hold..

What should I use to drill the hole in the trunk if I go that route?

You can get factory one from the parts store. The straps that is. I would thing you'd want to beef up that area. It looked to be some sort of bracing or smoething like that to me. But it has been over a year since I've really looked at that part of my car.

A drill.

With a bit that's just a bit bigger than the rod you use.
