i am workin on installin a cobra IRS into my 87 TC here:

i have an interference between the IRS sub frame and the stock fuel tank on the passenger side. my options as i see them, are a cell in the trunk, or moding a stock tank to fit.
a cell would be ok, but with plumbin and everything else could be outta the budget at this point in time.
i could buy a new stock tank, whack the offending corner off, weld in a new plate to cover the hole, and call it a day. this would allow me to retain the factory sender, lines, filler, etc.
are there any bolt in options that will get me a smaller tank? any other fox body tanks that will bolt in?
Kind of hard to see from the pics where the interference is.
I don't think there are any stock options that will bolt in. The new tank mod sounds like a good option if you can get it welded up well and leak-free.
yeah, stupid me forgot to take a pic of the interference....and those pics the tank is out, hahaha
its jus the front right corner of the tank where the IRS carrier comes down from the frame rail. since the tank is offset in the car, the carrier hits 2-3" of the corner on that side. if you look at the first and second pics, reference the strap mountin location. front to back is ok with the tank, it jus sticks out too far past the rail on the pass side...
*edit. TIG is great for leak free welds ;)
**edit again. tank for $75 http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/apw_shop/ymmp/ford/thunderbird/fuel_tank/1985/1988/apw44927403d8db2.html?apwcid=P1135867996W43b3f85c7ab9e&apwkwd=Ford+Thunderbird+Fuel+Tank
just dont put fuel in the tank before u cut/weld >:) causes problems if there is fumes/fuel in tank
^^^ But were would the fun be without fuel in there!?
Daniel
crud, the price of that tank went up! I was gonna buy one too. :(
hence the reason for a NEW tank:flip:

figured id share, i cant spend anymore money till i get paid for some of these parts i got for sale. :nono:
So a Fox mustang tank won't fit in a bird? I figured they would be similar.
Thats what I was thinking. Mustang tanks are 15.4 gallons, if I remember correctly my 85 had a 20 gallon tank.
