Shouldn't be to bad. The hard part is getting under the dash to undo the bolts and the rod to the brake pedal. Then depending if you buy just the booster or the booster master cyclinder combo. If you just get the boost unbolt the to bolts that hold the master cyclinder to the booster. carefully push the master cyclinder away from the booster. then remove the booster and instal the new one. If you are also replacing the master cyclinder you need to just disconect the brake lines and replace the combo unit and hook up brake lines and bleed the brakes. Hope this helps. Are you sure its the booster. That would mean hard pedal all the time.
Pull out the driver's seat and lay a blanket on the floor so you can lay on the floor and get up under the dash. Some of those nuts are a total bitch to get at, especially the top right one.
this isnt true, in my 79 cougar the pedal isnt hard but it takes it a while to come back, if you stomp hard on them the tires will lock up and remain locked up until it releases. now I dont know what his symptoms are so its really kinda hard to say.
Hard pedal is what I had when mine went out but it is not the only thing that could be wrong with it. Sorry my bad!
well ive got a soft pedal and it sounds like air leak i think its got new rear shoes and new front pads and new hubs
Soft pedal could indicate a bad master cyclinder. If the bosster is good and the master is bad maybe that air leak sound is the booster trying to make up for it. Not sure juat and idea. Maybe you have a leaky hose or wheel cyclinder. Maybe even air in the system, or a hole in a metal line. Look over the whole system and have someone work the breaks while you look at everyline. Also check the back side of the rims for any sign of brake fliud. When my rear W/C leaked I would see fluid on inside of the rims. Just some thoughts to help you get it figured out.
With my 87 sport I had soft pedal w/ hissing and thought the car wasn't going to stop. The brake booster was replaced and problem went buh-bye.:D
