Title: Anyone have an MN-12 5.0 Tbird handy?
Post by: Chuck W on July 07, 2006, 12:04:31 PM
Anyone have one they can check out?

More specifically the motor mounts.

I was doing some preliminary work on some motor mounts for the Supercoupes and come to find out the mounts I make for those will also work for the 86-88 Fox 3.8 Fox cars.

What this means is my 86-88 5.0 mounts can most likely be used on the 89-93 MN-12 5.0 cars as well.

Just trying to get a side-by-side on the motor mounts.

Chuck: I used MN-12 isolators on my 5.0 T/C swap and they work fine. I bought them from: http://www.mn12performance.com/mn12parts/em.htm

Don't know if this confirms what you're looking for.
Attached is a picture of my complete mounts before install: Frame mounts are the T/C's, engine mounts are 5.0 '87-'88 Tbird specific and isolators are the EM100's from mn12 performance.

gtbird...well I've seen that pic and I compared the lower pieces from the MN-12 with the TC ones I had, and aside from the extra reinforcements on the limiter, they were dimensionally the same.

Looks like the application for the 5.0 ones has expanded.  I'd like to maybe get an MN-12 guy to try them out when I run some more though just to be certain.

It just so happens to be a 91 sport tbird 5.0HO at my father’s house. Want do you need me to measure or what angle picture would you need?

Well I know the bases and isolators are the same, but what I need to double-check are the block brackets.  If you could check the location of the isolator mounting hole in relation to the block mounting holes that would help alot.  I need the fore-aft as well as the width.
On the Fox mounts, the fore-aft measurement between the driver and pass side is the same, but the driver mount is wider (from the block out to the isolator hole).

Also, a height might be good (from the block to the top of the lower u-bracket).

Looking at this pic here http://www.mn12performance.com/mn12parts/em/empic7_50.JPG, it does seem that the upper brackets are different than the Fox ones, but it may only be due to a taller isolator.

Thanks

I'm going to have my car up in the air later on this afternoon.  I can get some in car pics for you then, but I don't have any Fox mount pics.  Mabye someone else can chime in with them.

Sorry man gotta give me more time the car is very close my father lives across the street. But it’s on grass and I couldn’t get to dirty tried jacking it up put I could get the right angle so I tried just shoving the camera under the hood and taking pics but NG. Camera was to close. I still didn’t understand exactly what measurements you wanted so I was going to take a picture and hope you could explain from where to where you needed to measure.
Just my impute but are you in good w/a local parts store maybe they can take it off the shelf to show you.

No worries.

What I really need is someone with a complete mount.  I honestly could care less what the isolator looks like.

Well, I couldn't get the car in the air cause... well... its not running right now.  Assuming I can get it running this week, I will take pics on Saturday when I change my oil.  Assuming you still need them by then.

No worries, just let me know.  I'm sorting through the SC mounts at the moment.

OK...
I have gotten the basics for the early SC mounts sorted and am going to get some sample pieces made up.  I found out that the pass U-bracket is the same between the 86-88's and the 89-93's.  The driver side is slightly different, but not much.  By swapping that one piece though, it looks like my 86-88 stuff will fit the 89-93 cars as well.

What this means is I will soon be able to offer mounts for MN-12's (at least through 93....need some 94-95 mounts to verify differences).
Also, it means I can also supply mounts for the Fox 3.8 guys who might want them, or are doing a SC swap or the like.

Anyway, one thing I need.  I need the thread size for the block hardware on the 3.8's, anyone have that info handy?

I've got a 1990 MN-12 XR7 with a 5.0 in it Chuck, I was thinking about putting better engine mounts in it. What do u think u will charge for a pair when they are ready? Thanks, Brandon

Same as the rest at the moment $135-140 depending on the isolators.
