Title: Driveline vibration
Post by: rodsterh on July 06, 2006, 11:15:59 PM
Does anyone have any ride quality comments after removing all of the wonderful factory vibration dampening components?

I’d like to toss all of that extra weight and add an aluminum driveshaft to my 83 TC but don’t want to find out there is a vibration issue only solved by hanging dampers under the car. (Obviously there must be some problem otherwise Ford wouldn’t have added weight like that).

It got in my way when I changed gears, trying to refill it.
I left it off no difference to me.But I did save it.

That's what I plan on doing but wanted to see if anyone had vibrations that could only be solved using those nasty factory pieces.

Throw in the AL driveshaft and be happy.

Less pieces and a AL driveshaft sure will clean up the bottom of the car! (and we all love clean cars like Chuck W's!) ;)

Someone makes an aluminum driveshaft that fits the Cougar/Bird?

Anyway I have thus far gotten rid of the diff vibration damper, and the one on the original crossmember (may be a TC-only part) and noticed pretty much no difference.

Ok yay for the search feature on the forum!
I'm getting ready to change rear ends and was wondering just how important that diff vibration damper was.
I searched for the word "weight" and found this thread.. Based on reading this I'm loosing the Damper.

Thanks

i dont think they added weight to our cars for vibrations and such.  my dad has some scales (4point aka one under each wheel) from when he used to race and belive it or not, my 5.0 was 50/50 all around.  i think the weight is in there to balance the car out.  but yeh, i dont think taking it out would cause any unwanted effects other than possibly effecting handling.
