IT,, dialup!!!!! I'll have to wait until I go back to school to watch!
Nice!
is this the one with the hand controls? :hick:
Dude you're like a freakin' god amongst men, totally awesome!
Yip! that's the one. I'm still not perfect at the shifting thing but I'm getting better every day.
You're doin great Paul... With a little pratice, you'll be better than most stick drivers out there...
Thanks Guys! I think I'll go out and practice some more. Later!
Once you get a good feel for it, we want a burnout with about 20ft of rubber...:D
i cant watch it!!!! its not downloading right or something.whats happening!?!
nice job man :)
Do you have QuickTime installed on your computer?
Paul, you drive stick smoother than I do sometimes! Have you ever driven a stick before at all? Or are you a total n00b to the grind-box?
Thanks man!
Total n00b! Other than engaging the PTO in my Dads oil delivery truck when I was a kid 15 yrs and younger, I've never pushed in a clutch. I learned the theory of the manual shift back then but I never got a chance to try it for myself. I had my accident when I was 15. I had driven autos before the accident but I never got to drive a manual shift.
I guess I never heard about your accident, would you mind sharing it with the ones of us that dont know? :sorry:
Well, Long long ago, in a bay town far far away....It was the middle of December and around here that time of year the temp hovers around the freezing point. It had been raining, on and off, all day.
That evening, about 8:00pm, me and 4 of my friends met at the little cabin we use to go drinking in.:nono:Underage drinking is a no-no:nono: :) We had no one to buy us any beer so we decide to hitch-hike to the games arcade about 5 miles away. I had a $ in my pocket - why the hell I was going to the games arcade, I don't know :(
We started walking and about a mile in we got a ride with one of our friends in the back of his dodge ram pick-up. The five of us got in the pan since there were already three in the cab.
Sometime after dark the temp slipped below 0*C and the wet roads, from the rain we had earlier, started to freeze.
We were almost at the end of our journey, only a couple more turns in the winding road, when, while going around a turn, the rear of the truck started to slip out. Once the truck was side on in the road it suddenly got traction and started to tip up on it's driver side. I was thrown out of the pan and landed sat up on the road, back on to the tipping truck.
I remember after landing on the road thinking that "I hope that truck don't tip any further" when, just like that, there was a loud bang as the truck came down across my back - T12-L1, if that means anything to you.
No one else was seriously hurt. One guy had a bump on the head and one bruised his hip.
I spent 7 months in the hospital undergoing rehab and today I'm paralized from the hips down. Although I can move my thighs a little. If you look close to the movie you can see my legs move a little.
Now back to the compliments and patting me on the back for a job well done. :tg:
thanks for the history lesson I had no idea, this makes this thread all the more impressing to me :)
after that whole drinking is bad story, this is your signature?
"Hopped up on drugs, kegged off in a dream world"
just sounds weird to me
I think you're really missing the point.
1.) This post is not about underage drinking. It's about Paul's home-made, hand-controlled 5-speed turbo couple.
2.) I REALLY don't think (and this is my opinion) that the quote in his signature, which is probably from a song or a movie, etc, makes any reference to underage drinking nor does it encourage or condone the act.
Like the man said:
I haven't seen the video (ed dialup) but allow me to congratulate you, Paul. You've done what many so-called "able-bodied" people cannot do. I tried for years to teach my sister to drive a stick.
Maybe when I go to the city tomorrow I'll stop by my sister's house (she has highspeed) and show her the video :D
Wow, very impressive!
*to all other members*
I think he deserves a big round of applause, just NO BEER!!! :hick:
Thundergrowl, I think you should get a paddle shifter system similar to what Ferrari uses in cars like the 360 Modena (with the autmatic engaging clutch and all). That would be very cool and practical at the same time!
You Are A GOD!! You are an amazing person. You can honestly drive a manual better than I can. I thought I was good at it. That is an awesome job you have done. *pat, pat, pat* I cant use the cheers smiley, but that is some kickass work.
I feel like an idiot, The first time I watched the video I thought "wtf? its just someone driving around" and it wasnt till someone mentioned it that I realised It was the handcontrolled car. I saw your legs moving a bit and just thought the obvious :p
Awesome job, What I originally thought was a pointless video is one of the most awesome things i've seen in a car. Thats amazing!
Now for that smoke show
I think you're missing the point I was trying to make. The...
statement was an attempt at humour throught hypocrisy. I neither condone nor discourage underage drinking. It was just something we did. I'm neither ashamed nor proud of the fact.
I included the statement...
because I find it ironic that if we had someone to buy us beer, we wouldn't have been hitch-hiking and my injury would never have happened. I would have just sat in the cabin, drank my poverty pack and walked home safe and sound.
Funny huh?
Maybe the bigger no-no washiznitch-hiking?
EDIT: BTW the line in my signature is from a song by WGB (Wonderful Grand Band) called "Living in a Fog". I just like the line.
Burnouts should be easy. With the handcontrols, I can do a brakestand while popping the clutch.
But first, who's going to donate a set of tires to the cause??? :)
