Title: Converting sn-95 axle to 4 lug?
Post by: CougarSE on July 03, 2006, 09:20:11 PM
Specifically a v6 unit.

I know I could stab my 28 spline shafts out of my axle into this axle..

...and use what brake rotors?

I'm wanting to stay 4 lug...for now...

Use 87-88 TC stuff.

Those brake rotors will work just fine with the sn95 calipers?

I don't think they sit properly with the rotor. You may have to shim. I meant use ALL TC stuff. :D

If I have time I can check it out for yah.

Hmm... I might have a problem with finding all of that stuff...

Oh well looks like I'll just have to go with a tc rear... oh darn.

Ok. I just verified that you can do it... sorta.

OPTION #1: Using SN-95 Calipers, TC Rotors and Axles on SN-95 Rear

Won't work because the TC uses vented rotors verses the SN-95s solid rotor. The rotor is much thicker and the caliper bracket is thicker to accomidate this. The SN-95 caliper bracket is too thin to sit over the TC rotor as pictured below.

OPTION #2: Using TC Calipers, Rotors and Axles on SN-95 Rear.

The only thing I can see stopping this from working is the caliper bracket. You will need to grind down the two edges above the mount holes so they will line up with the axle bracket's holes. Not a lot of work, but it's still work.

OPTION #3: Using SN-95 Calipers and Rotors, TC Axles on SN-95 Rear.

Redrill your rotors for 4-Lug. Shim rotor. Done.

Personally I think it would be easier to just swap over all TC stuff. If you need some of it I have some parts laying around. PM for the details.

1st thing that told me it wouldn't work is you want 4 lug and the turbo coupes that have rear disk are 5 lug. I guess you could use what you have just drill the rotor out so the stud holes are in the right place. That is if the center hub is the right size. Racers do this stuff all the time. You might need longer studs because the thickness of the rotor.  I think it would be just as safe as a factory rotor set up that way. You'd most likly want to use a drill press to drill the holes.

Um... You need to go back to ThunderBird school......

No fox Tbird came with 5 lug.  TC or not, Disc or not.

Matter of fact, I think the ONLY foxes that came with 5-lug were SVO Mustang's and maybe the later Mustang Cobras.

What are you all smokin! the 87-88 Turbo coupes the only one that came form the factory with rear disc are 5 lug. So are those Snowflake rims that came on them. Also I belive the Mark 7's are fox platform and all the way back in 83 they had rear disc and they are even five lug. Isn't that why we use the mark rotors on one of the ways to go five lug.  Those are just the ones that I know for a fact.

you should check your facts before you spout off like that. 87-88 turbo coupes, ALL fox birds for that matter, are 4 LUG. all snowflakes are 4 lug.

I sure hope it's sarcasm.  Come to think of it, my snowflake rims have 5 holes in the middle.  4 for the lugs and one for the hub...
