Title: New look for my TC
Post by: Pressure cooked chicken on June 25, 2006, 10:26:36 PM
Ok, heres the deal. A friend of mine does custom graphics and complete car "wraps" for a living. Well, we were sitting around b.s.ing saturday and he asked if I would be interested in doing my TC for a big discount on the price. Normally he charges around 1500 to 2000 for a complete wrap depending on how big the car is. The only limit to the design is your imagination. He said all he wanted was his logo on the c pillar in exchange for the discount. He says all I have to pay for is materials and setup fee which is about 800 bucks. Well we whipped up a design for the bird and I want some opinions of it before I drop the cash for this.......
(http://

p.s. the top is going to be an aircraft look with rivets.

I prefer the cleaner look. The design takes away from the car in my opinion. It does look kinda cool though. Maybe you should just do the aircraft bit on the top half of the car, you know just above the door line below the windows. The only part I like is the C-pillar area.

It is kinda "loud" isn't it lol. I want to do something as the paint has faded to an almost flat black and this would be cheaper than a paint job. I like the aircraft look too but it would need to be on the whole car to look ok I think.

:iagree:

i love the look of the aircraft as well, mabey you could figure out a cleaner look for the lower areas of the car, mabey a faded two tone with the aircraft look on the top.

Are you suggesting aircraft look on top fading to black on the bottom? Mmmmmm sounds interesting.....

Well does anyone else have any suggestions for a custom design? Remember this is only limited by imagination.

if you want the plane look up top then how bout doing panel that line up witheach other and the rivet blend better.and maybe a design or sphere shape stripe on the hood and if you extend the yellom line from the rear and keep that fall but strech it out a little longer to were it who line up with the bottom of the fender in front of the front tire and make it red blue orange black anycolor or that mirror chrome stuff ( or you could use that for the top half) with a thin pinstipping separating the two colors and make the bottom asolid color like blue with the blue oval shadowed or ghosted more or less in the back of it.
if you followed that at all what do you think? i was just thinkin and typin so though process on wording isnt great but i can explain more if needed

-why not do a slick looking paint job on one????
maybe a fade or stripes, etc....

Or you could just smear pig poop all over the car and get the same effect as that "body wrap".....

Pig poop? Not a big fan of body wraps regardless of design I take it?:flame:

I'm going to have to agree.  I stared at that picture of your car for a while and just could not think of anything that you could do with a body wrap that would make it look good.

When I think "body wrap" on a car all I see in my head is those Scion xBs they park inside malls that have corporate logos all over them.  I just don't know how you could make something like that look good on a Tbird.

Because a paint job, especially with effects is going to cost considerably more than a wrap job. Trying to save some dinero and end up with a neat looking car at the same time.

Not a HUGE fan of the aircraft look but it covers a lot of square footage well. I agree on bringing the back arch forward and removing the front one. I also like the checkered flag look, just got to figure how to keep it tasteful.

80's nascar.......  comes to my mind. how would this giant 'sticker' be removed at a later time?
Title: New look for my TC

Heh...ask for an opinion here, and you'll get plenty. ;)

I don't mind from the swooshes down. If the top were "plainer" then the graphics would stand out on the bottom much better.

It looks as if your friend does a lot of race cars like this. That's fine for a race car...they all seem to have that "checkered flag/motion/grab your attention" theme nowadays. But on a street car it becomes too much. Besides....rusted rivets?! These things rust like that naturally; why accentuate that fact?! ;)

Nascar could be done as well. I'll get a couple of mockups this weekend. The "sticker" can be removed at any time without residue or damage to the paint.

You see rusted rivets? Oh well, that can be modified. I guess I just want something different without being too far out there. Easier said than done:hick:

I think it would look really cool  maybe later get some 15" bassets and white letter tires to complete the look:D

i assume it doesnt have to wrap the car completely. if not, id tone it down and take advantage of it and come up with some sort of graffic....but not the whole car.

Yea, he can do partial wraps but that would expose some of the faded paint underneath. Me trying to be a cheap ass doesn't help any:D

with the aircraft rivets +5 checkered flag +10:D

If you want to just hide faded paint just get a single color wrap

it think it will add about 140-150 after it tuned in right.

IMO the plane  needs to go if you want the flag how bout a shodowed/ ghosted flag. i think with some ghosted stuff it would tone it down and set it off.

I thought about that but the material doesn't have the same shine as paint.

Agreed.
In a year or two, how will this graphic look? Meaning, what type of damage will the sun do to it?
Not worth $800 IMHO, but do whatever makes ya happy! :D

The oldest wrap I've seen personally that he did is about 2 1/2 yrs old. Still looks good. Beyond that, who knows. Another friend who painted his mustang himself (turned out nice) offered to paint my car and said it would not cost any more than $800 for sure so now I'm leaning toward that although I'm thinking of a color other than black. I guess I've had too many black cars over the years, lol

Don't you have a bunch of hillbilly car painters down in tejas?  I know up here in Ohio I can name like 4 that I would trust to paint my car.... and they churn out some nice ass work!

Hillbilly car painters? LMAO! Can't say that I know any offhand. A couple of years ago, I had our vocational school auto body paint my GN. I had to get on a 6 month waiting list but it only cost about $350(materials) Other than some orange peel, it looked pretty good for a cheap paint job. I've done some minor body work before and am pretty confident about fixing the minor hail damge on the car but I've never sprayed a car and don't trust myself to do it.

do a two tone. not the factory two tone some thing different. i wanted to do black top with a strip of a different color or that chrome foil in the pale of the stipe thaT STARTS AT THE BOTTOM OF TO Front of the front tire and move up to the back of the deck lid and like a gray/ silver or white on bottom.

I'm trying to envision what you are describing. Are you saying the line separating the two tone would sweep upward toward the back of the car? Hell, photoshop it on my pic if you can.

I would use the 800 bucks for a good paint job or engine goodies.

Ok, I get it. It seems that would be better to do in paint, though. I think the whole point of the wrap is for crazy or different designs, which I'm not so sure that I want. I just threw the design up to see what the general consensus was and boy did I get opinions lol!:flame:

i would look better in paint if you werent going to ghost a flag in the back of the white area. i say a nice paint job and then you dont have to but an emblem on you pillar.

Get a charcole colored car. They look cool. Sorry I cant spell.

Maybe if you made the wrap all one color then put checkered flags on the doors and hood with a couple of raceing stripes. Oh and fade in/out the checkers. I think that would look cool.

are you going for somthing that looks awesome at a relatively cheap cost?

i'd go with a solid color a midnight tone...... a color so dark it looks black... but when you get up close..... it pops out a color like blue red or green.......if you wanted to do somthing real cool... look into kamelion paint.... that shiznit is a bitch to spray.... but in the end it looks awesome
