This is my 84' Fila. It's not in the best shape as the engine harness has 2 chunks missing from the preivious owner. Also it's not easy to find a replacement harness for the 5.0 (302) CFI Bullshiznit efi this car has. But i', also thinking of goin to a 2300 carb.

She is my baby though and I'm trying to " restore with style".

Welcome.
4-eyes RULE!
Another Ohio guy!!! Awsome! So do you meen columbus or is there really a columbiana ohio??
Welcome.
OHIO! HOME OF CATJAM!!!
tru dat!
Welcome Aboard!
Ok, Here is goes.
1. Columbiana is about 4 miles west of the PA border.
2. Thanks for all the "noobie" support.
3. Ya'll got some kick ass rides, thanks for all the comments.
Welcome.
That engine bay shot frightens me...
shiznit boy, your so close to youngstown I bet you can smell it!
So we'll see you in about a month then?
wow, nice lookin' car...i want one...:D
With that mess of wires under the hood, you may be better off converting to carb for the time being. Who knows what's missing and such. The biggest thing would be retrograding the fuel system to a low pressure set-up.
that is a mighty fine mess of wires! i hate wirin if one little wire is messed up the whole thing wont work.
nice ride. those bucket covers are nice i want some so bad.
:giggle:
No..just making an appropriate suggestion. ;)
If I knew him or his skills better I might suggest just keeping it CFI and building a MegaSquirt ECU for it and run it that way.... Cleaner harness, still EFI and no need to so a "full" EFI swap on it.
Great car. It has loads of potential.
Welcome to the forums.
Yeah that Engine bay made me go =:O
As of now I want to eventaly restore her. A good freind of mine's dad bought her new. Then my freind had it sold it, i bought it from that guy and now it's in her current condition. My skills are about 6/10 on what I can do and know. I realy don't want CFI but ifi can keep it on the car I've been told she will be worth more because she is a FIlA.
I don't know if I'd bank anything on the car being "worth" more.
The wiring harness looks a fright, and may be more trouble than it's worth to trouble-shoot. However, you may be able to find one from a member here who is taking CFI off their car.
Any idea's of who would be? I have also been told that if I take the CIF of the car I can bolt on a Motocraft 2150 card right in it's place. It's not a ruch because i have my Vic' but it's more of a toy then anything. If you have any other ideas or hatemail, anything of the sort let me have it please.
Well, yes a carb will bolt right up to that intake...but you still have to deal with the fuel system (it's a high-pressure EFI set-up currently) and you'd have to rework the ignition, since the whole lot is computer controlled, you can't just pull the CFI unit off and expect the rest to work with a carb.
It's not just as easy as "bolting on a carb"
Yeah, that makes sence. Some of our other idea's were to put a 5.8 ( 351) in it and make it a " Speical" like a Saleen Mustang Or a Roush. Then me we all found out what a FILA was and how many are out there. Around here no one even know what a fila is. Not many do. It's nothing too speical like say a 1970 Boss 429 Mustang but they are rare. Rare-er with the 5.0. Now we want to restore it but still have some fun. I'm not planning to see her so I want to make her my baby.
Oh yeah, to everyone, how the hell do you put pictures in yoursigniture. I get the text and colors and everything but how to put a pic in there.
This is kinda a loaded question, but if my car is a "fox" then can't I take most suspention things from any 79-93 Stang'? I know I can take an engine from one ( 85 only) but will things like bucket seats and other assorted things bolt on or will I have to mod them?
Everything will bolt up, even the dash. Ditch the CFI and get a HO upper and lower and harness from a Mustang. I happen to know where you could get an upper and lower intake from.:)
THe front suspension is the same as the Mustang of the same year, the rear is slightly different (control arms are longer)
Drew, do you have one and are willing to sell and would it work with the eec-4 i have now? I know i'm wording this wrong but will ti "bolt in" or do i have to do full harness swap. I'm also almost dead on funds, like $300 to get it runnin.
Your to much of a mustang guy to be posting info like that.
Use a Harness from an 86 Tbird or cougar 5.0 SEFI. It will take far less work to make functional than a mustang harness.
Ok, good news. I just got permition to take what ever I want from a freinds 88 Turbo Coupe. It's been wreaked but the driver door( I Need) and the interior is mine. Now the question is will that bolt to an 84 or will it have to be modded?
The door molding and window trim is different on the '87-'88 cars than the '83-'86.
The interior may need some modification or no modification depending on what pieces you plan to use.
Check out here for parts interchange information...

Will the door itself fit? Thw whole car is for sale but it's about half way gutted if anyone wants it. If you guys want parts let me know and i'll do my best to hook you all up.
Should fit fine. I don't think the hinges are in different locations or anything like that. Dimensions are the same as well.
Cool. Thanks for the help. Also on a new note, The whole car is up for grabbs. I'll give you guys what ever you want on parts. it's an 1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. Dark Blue in color. I was told that it's being gutted becuse it's shock towers in the front are both rusted. As of now the only things not for sale is the seats and the driver door(Mine). Let me know if anyone wants it.
Whoa! I've been away for a week and I totally missed this post! I live in Salem, dude, I'm about 6 miles away from you. Send me a PM if you'd like to meet up sometime. I'd love to get a better look at your car. I've got an '85 that's been sitting for over a year and I'm gonna try to bust my ass to get it to CJ this year. Hit me up.
Sorry. I guess I should be more detailed.
Fila, you will need a SEFI Harness and injectors and rails and possibly lines to make it work. It would be easier to get the T-bird and Cougar specific parts. $300 would be pushing it, but it could be done. All the parts are commonly thrown away by Mustang guys when they are upgraded. You will get alot better performance out of SEFI than CFI. I don't know if your car does it, but my 85 5.0 with CFI stalled at every light. I threw sensors at it left and right and it only got a little better right before I sold it.
It doesn't run at all right now so I have nothing to loose. It's ust a thing I was told that it would be worth more if I sell her if she has CFI. You said you know ware I can find these parts, wana share with me?
I've got an upper and lower intake, 19lb injectors, and possibly a stock throttle body and EGR spacer. I'd have to check on shipping, whats your zip code. Ebay is also a great place to find this stuff. Changing the fuel injection won't hurt the value of your car. It is a Fila, but any collector will be looking for a very low mileage car. A good running, reliable car will get more money that a rare py running car. CFI was good in its day, but SEFI is so much better and more reliable. Check out ebay and local Mustang forums.
44408 And that makes sence.
Hey man, what have you done to get your car up to 210hp? Check out coolcats.net for pretty much anything basic you need to know. If you dont find the answer there, they hit us up here in one of the tech sections, like engine tech. If you are gonna go through the effort of pulling all that stuff off, you may as well get started on the H.O. upgrade. Which should get you to 225. Do everything exept the cam and injectors, and you should be around 200. for the cam, you will need to convert to roller rockers. It may just be easier to throw in a new engine.
oh well. Just alittle bit for you to chew on. And welcome to the boards.
*edit*
oops, I just realized its cfi not efi. So, you will have to do it all almost at once. Oh well. If you wish to go that route an engine swap would be the way to go it looks like. Or of course, a carb conversion. good luck. And go ahead and tell us your plans.
Your car should also be around 130hp stock.
I was told since she was a Fila that she got a " H.O. version of the regular 5.0 CFI and she should be about 170." ( Ford guy down the road told me this one) and I didn't know for a fact so I based it on my crown vic' which makes 240. I was thinking of just putting in a Police Package motor out of my vic and putting a 351 crate in that.:D I know it runs, I know what kind of pawer it makes. But i don't want to go throught the trpuble at this time. It's a long path but it starts by fixing what I have. And I can't afford it I just bought my girl a gold ring set:spit:
You Fila has the standard 5.0 as none of the tbirds or cougars got an HO.
About that TC, does it run? If so how much would he want for the complete engine, engine harness, and ECU?

That I'll ask about the 2.3 Turbo for you. I think he wants some parts off of it though. I'll see what I can do.
Nice Bird you got there. Welcome to the boards.
Thanks. It's still a work in progress.
I assume you've heard about Cat Jam...if not:
http://www.catjam.net
Love to see you there, since you're only 20 minutes away.
A couple of things:
1) The 87-88 door will fit your car but it'll look stupid. The "belt line" of the car is different, but more importantly, the window is completely different. 87-88 models have flush mounted side glass, which will look wrong with your "recessed" quarter window. You would be far better off finding a correct door (any 83-86 T-Bird/Cougar). If you think installing a non-stock induction system on your car will hurt its value, just wait 'til you see what having the wrong door will do to it :hick:
Second, either reverting to carb or upgrading to SEFI would both benefit your car. Reverting to carb would open up all kinds of performance upgrade paths, and is not a difficult thing to do. To do it easily you could get a fuel tank sending unit from a carbureted car (83 V6 models, or 83-86 Canadian V6 models), an aftermarket low pressure inline pump, a carb distributor & Duraspark box, and of course, the carb. It would involve a bit of work, but so will trying to make your existing hacked up harness work.
SEFI of course would require an SEFI harness, computer, fuel pump, and induction hardware, but it would give you better drivability than a carb, and would be more likely to be emissions legal.
Remember, these cars were built during a dark period of automotive history, when only supercars exeeded 300 horsepower and most regular cars barely broke a hundred. While people may look back fondly on the styling of these cars, nobody will miss their performance, so I think you'll be safe squeezing some HP out of the car without hurting its value. As long as you don't do anything that is permanent (can't be returned to stock) the value won't be hurt.
i would say go to carb. but i dont know it sounds easier and im sure folk round hear will help you get it done by answering any question you have that they know. and it is cheaper to tune if you know what your doing. it would be cheap if you could find a manifold and carb on ebay or craigslist and the other parts you need but i dont know just what i think. the Sleeper guy might be able to tell you the way to do it as far a the computer bypass and stuff
I was thinking of just putting in a Police Package motor out of my vic and putting a 351 crate in that. I know it runs, I know what kind of pawer it makes. It's EFI but does anyone think it would be worth it in the long run. I don't plan on selling it anytime soon but someday I might. Also I just brought her home today. She ( me girlfreind named her Jamie) was at my freinds and I was working on her there.
I might go to Cat Jam but the Jamie will not be. I know it's sad but I WILL BE THERE NEXT YEAR!
Harold said he is keeping the whole engine out of the TC, sorry
Ok, thanks anyways.
I might have someone smart come and look at my wiring today. For all I know it might start by the end of the day. Ahh, what hope can do to a man....
My smart person never showed
