Title: Electric Doorlock Actuator Off Mount
Post by: sansabar on June 24, 2006, 08:27:13 AM
The electiric doorlock actuator has come off the round rivetted door mount.  There is a slight lip to the mount so I am "assuming" that his lip held a ring or something to keep the actuator in place.  This lip also feels as if parts of it are broken off.  I have managed to hold the actuator on the mount by wrapping some small wire around it (that was fun!).  The door elec doorlock works again but I don't think my wire wrap is going to last.  Do I need a new mont, holder or both?  And what is it that holds the actuator to the doormount?

I like Autozone.com for how-to-do-it.
I like Rockauto.com for pretty pictures of the little parts.

Does this help?  :D

The lock solenoid has a pin sticking out of each side.
The pins go into rubber bushings.
The bushings snap into the bracket via the cutouts.

It is where the actuator frame mounts to the door that seems to have broken

Good info on the piece itself, though.  Nay still come in handy.

The "fix" lasted about 10 miles.  Not sure how much I need to replace.  The actuator and its frame seem fine - the doormount (piece rivetted to the door)  appears to be the problem

as long as you still have that u shaped bracket your good.  u can put a washer or something behind it and a short bolt, the head of the bolt will clear when you shut the door. iv done this about 3 times changing out the actuators.

So I need to drill out the rivetted in mount and replace it with a bolt? Or drill it out larger to accommodate a bolt and leave it in?

Sounds like a winner.  Maybe I can get it finished this time.  Thanks.

That's how I installed mine... short 1/4" bolts, washers, with a Nylock nut on the outside. I think there's a "stepped" washer kinda thing that the rivet holds tight to the door, but allows the bracket to swivel around it.

Got 'er done.  Went back in and took 20 minutes to take care of it by drilling the mount out and adding a bolt, nylock and fender washer. The mount had half of the lip missing.  Not a problem now.  Thanks to all for pointing me in the right direction.
