Title: Yet Another AC Thread - Vacuum Pump
Post by: thesoldan on June 22, 2006, 11:11:34 AM
To convert to R134 properly you need a good bit of vacuum - more than the cheap venturi pumps can do.  I have heard you can take an old AC compressor and make a home made vacuum pump out of it.  Has anyone tried this and will it pull enough vacuum to remove the moisture?

Works great, I have a couple of them setup just for that purpose... Used one to evacuate everything I've had open. My Bird system was off the car for three years before I reinst and its now worked fine since '02.

A old referigerator compressor is probably the best...

Well my dad bought a new window ac unit for his bedroom.  While drilling a hole for mounting braces he drilled right through one of the coolant lines.  Bad news for him... brand new free compressor for me. :D
