Title: Hood latch / cable issues
Post by: amooset on December 14, 2004, 07:04:48 PM
Okay, took off my hood latch in the freezing cold today only to figure out that it's my cable that's sticking.  So, do I wait to see if it loosens up when it gets warmer or start looking around to change it?  I have to add oil every couple weeks so I kinda need to hood to open and close a little more often than normal.  I don't think any quick fixes would hold up for long.

I had this problem last winter with my hood latch as well, all I did to fix it was to use a flathead screwdriver to get down into the latch assembly and reset the latch manually. If you have to you can remove the latch fron the core support (right name?), making sure you note the alignment of the bolts were on the latch as well as the latch itself. It kinda sucked to do, but it' how I figured out how to get the cable to pull back through and reset the latch to keep my hood down. Hope this helps.

I changed my cable and latch a couple of years ago.I pulled one at a salvage yard slowly, and used that as my learning experience to take the one off of my 'Bird. It's actually not hard at all.just a little time consuming. But,it was better to suffer a little to change it out then to continue messing with my screwed up latch.I'd rather pay now and get it over with than to pay forever.
