Title: Guage Pod Pics???
Post by: capitlj on June 16, 2006, 12:59:22 PM
I'm going to get the autometer dual gauge a-pillar pod that fits the 94-03 stang for the cat and i just wanted to see if anyone here had pics of one in their fox cat or bird, and eric said its almost direct fit.  Any tips on what to mod. I'm filling it with VDO full sweep mechanical oil pressure and water temp gauges, oh and i also would like to know if anyone knows where i can get blue 194 LED's for the gauges the blue incandescent 194s i have are bright enough for the cluster but not the aftermarket gauges.

I've got that one in my 84 T-bird. It fits pretty good. It doesn't follow the pillar cover exzact but it is pretty damm close.  I didn't have to mod anything to make it fit. Just have some little gaps at the top and bottom edges. I did have to make a hole for the wireing to come through and to hold it on with there push tabs. As for the blue lights I believe my autometer gauges came with bulb covers to make the lights 5-6 different colors. I bought the phantom model gauges.  I've also seen them selling colored light bulbs. Try ording in some of those 194 in a 194b part number I know Eiko brand bulbs have blue bulbs in that number. hope this helps I'll post a pic when I get a good one of the gauge pod.

Hey Hawk, did you have to mod your pod to get that boost gauge to fit?

But you did trim it to get it to fit better i just got it and test fitted it I'm going to trim it a little to get the fit perfect and i didnt buy autometer guages too expensive.  I bought VDO full sweep mechanical ones like $30 a pop with my discount.

Hey capitlj, I have a VDO boost gauge in my pillar pod...those studs for the mounting bracket on the back do run into the pod a little, I heated the plastic on mine and pushed it out just a tad, but I didn't have any problems with it fitting otherwise.

Does anyone know if an autometer  triple gauge a-pillar pod will almost fit an 88 XR7?

The tripple pod is an entire pillar if i remember correctly, and it wont fit.

I run a single gauge pod.

I ordered mine from Summit. I think it's for a '94 Mustang, but I could be wrong. It fits very well and I love it.

You use a stock O2 sensor for that style air fuel gauge.

I put a dual gage pod in my '83, and then realized that it did not fit too well with the vent windows. So I have some large gaps at the top and bottom so that I am able to still use the vent windows. I will try to get some pics tonight.

do they have a single pod that will go on both drivers and passenger's side?  i've got an idea brewing.  i hate the blind spots in my car, on the interstate someone can get along side me behind my door and they disapear.  i HATE the idea of a bubble mirror on my outside mirrors and those pods look GREAT to put a covert bubble mirror on.  i know its kinda odd, but with the amount of time i spend on the highway its the best idea i've come up with yet.  since i have the starwars guages on a 5.0 sport so i dont need any auxilery guages so this pod idea is the best i can come up with to fix the blind spot with a mirror and without making my outside mirrors ugly.

what do you guys think?

Actually, thats a pretty cool idea. Might be tough getting one for the  passenger side, though.

How is a bubble mirror INSIDE the car gonna work?

Besides that, those gauge pods are angled in toward the driver.

havnt you ever seen the bubble mirrors drivers put in thier cars in nascar?  they cant have extruding side mirrors so they get a simple bubble mirror and of course in nascar they fab up a bracket, but otherwise the thing is tucked inside the drivers area, its perfect for knowing who's right on your inside quarter panel... at 186mph its not much, but im sure on a street car it'd be very versitile.

arent most of these things kinda generic (guage pods)?  or at least jc whitney have got to have some generic pillar pods... im ganna look into it.  i mean, if i can drive past the riciest civic that has his normal guage cluster readings on his A pillar (oil pres, water temp, etc) and know how that dude's cars runnin as i drive by... i think i might be able to find some that'll work for a mirror.  im kinda concerned with the pod itself tho, it's bulky enough for a boost guage so its kinda big for a mirror... but i'll waste some time and money and see what i get.
