would it be of any worth to swap in the smaller, higher reving v8 out of a newer ford taurus SHO... i would find it totaly awesome to see, say an 88 cougar xr7 5 speed with the taurus SHO v8, SC'd or TC'd... but i think these are just dreams and all that they can become...

If I recall correctly, those are Yahama engines.
You would pay DEARLY for parts, which would most certainly be required.
Getting the engine wired into the car would be an absolute nightmare.

It would be cool, though.

Yeah, dude.  It's probably very doable.  Chuck on here has a 3.2L V6 SHO engine-to-fox project going on I think, somewheres.  BUT, you will, as Zach said, pay a lot for the parts.  It's a high-dollar conversion.  If you were gonna choose a SHO engine, I'd honestly do a 3.2/3.0 over a 3.4 V8.  The V8's didn't have as much power/liter, in addition they have a known catastrophic fault with cam sprockects coming off.  Yes, coming off.

I remember paying $120 for a USED stock alternator, and that was the best deal I could find.  New ones, or remans will run you over $200 I think.  THat's just an example of the prices of parts.  In addition, a lot of parts aren't even made for those engines anymore.
