Title: Tranny Swap
Post by: GST-Bird on June 12, 2006, 04:37:51 PM
Okay I'm sure this has been touched upon a million times in these threads, but I want mad specific details. I currently have a 87 T-bird that is automatic. I want to rip out the automatic transmission and put in a 5-speed manual. Alot of my friends were telling me to get a T-5 transmission but to me it means nothing. I have the stock 3.6L v6 in my car but I want to also change that when it dies to a big v8. Now what is the trans I should put into my car, how hard is it to do and what would it cost to have done? Also, would I need to get a different transmission when I put the v8 in the car? Any amount of information about this would be very helpful.

First thing you need to do is check out coolcats.net in the tech section. A  87 3.8 flywheel balance is unknown for a t-5 application at this time. For now, you will mainly want to check out the H.O. swap in the coolcats site. Then check out the t-5 for the v-8's. There is lots of information there and even more research needs to be done. Any questions or information that you dont under stand, feel free to ask us here.
