I just bought this 88 Turbo coupe and plan on swaping it to a V8. Over the years I have owned 8 t birds and 7 of them have been Turbo coupes including a brand new one in 88 and a 5.0L conversion in 91 on an black 88 TC that is the twin to the one I have now.
This car is a super clean 100% rust free car and I picked (stole it ) it up for $450. This is my wife after she took it for a ride. The first thing she said was "wow I used to think these were fast" LOL

wow that was definitely a steal! Welcome to the board.
Nice find;) Good luck with the new ride!
$450??? How many miles does that thing have on it, the outside looks immaculate!
God, one like that would probably go for about $3000 here...
Woah! Nice Bird! Welcome to the board! :D
Great deal $450 was a steal.... I can relate to what your wife said, the automatic TCs are slow and beg for a 5.0 swap...
Have some fun, crank up the boost and when the A4LD pukes its guts, go for the 5.0..
wow, purrty and , you's a good shopper!
Yeah 15 minutes later....:p
Wow, that looks like $450 that was spent well....
Your missing the rear seat!
It looks straight. I wish I could find one like that. But with the 5 speed.
Cool. Welcome to the board. Sounds like you have had a couple of foxes.
Thanks for the warm welcome everybody.
The trans is already slipping so We are not going to drive it untill the v8 swap is done.
I took the rear seat out to clean it but it will be back in soon. I think the $450 was a super deal but I could have had the car for $250 if I had no coscience(sp?).
My love for the Turbo coupes started in 88 when my wife and I bought a brand new maroon 88 that was loaded with every option. That didnt last long because she drove it into a tree the first snow storm we had. Then in 1990 I had a black on red 88 TC that we swaped a 5.0L into and that was one of the best all around daily drivers I have ever had. Over the years I we have had 7 TC's and about 55 to 60 Mustangs from 70 Boss 302s (4 of them) to 03 Cobras (2 of them).
over the years I never forgot about the black TC with the V8.
TurboCoupe50 A couple of years ago I got to check out your car at VMP and I really liked it.I was running my 01 WS6 trans am.
Very nice Bird. Welcome Aboard!
... that be alot of fords!!!
that is a very nice looking car for 450. great deal.
ever do a 2.3 build up? they can be pretty darn fast!
I am ever the proponent of keeping the tc's tc's.. but it is your car and for 450 bucks you can't beat it!
Nice deal. Go for more guts if you're going to swap. I think TurboCoupe50 will become TurboCoupe347 soon. I'm swapping a 401 AMC into one of my TC's. I've also done a pretty wild 2.3T build-up, but it loses it's street fun factor.
Nice TC purchase.
Do you have an idea how much those seats weigh by the way? I've considered removing mine permanently.
A big 'high' back to you! ;)
I know what you mean about keeping a turbo and thats what im going to do.
Eccept its going to be a V8 Turbo coupe.:D
Those AMC 401 can make alot of power if built right. Many years ago I had a friend with an AMX with a 401 with the "dog leg " heads and he ran way into the tens with it and this was almost 20 years ago.
If I had my way I would do an LS2 in it but Im affraid that I would have to listen to all kinds of .
I know the 2.3 would make power and I could build one for nothing because a real good friend used to build them for midget cars years ago and he has tons of parts he would give me . He has aftermarket cranks, heads, and tons of other stuff but I just cant do it.
I hate the way they viberate, sound, and the type of power they make.Like you said "street fun factor"
My friend has a mustang with a basicly stock 302 in it with his own turbo kit and he has made 560 to the wheels on pump gas and alcohol. Thats the kind of power im looking for. My 03 Cobra went low 11s on pump gas and Nittos and I would like the TC to run about the same.
My 401 is a 1970 with the hi-compression dog-leg heads. It would go fast in a TC dead stock. Of course it won't be :D:D:D
Go for the LS1/LS2!! That was actually my original plan, but they are so expensive. Try for the LS1 though, the LS2 is still having teething problems with not nearly as much aftermarket support, and I have no idea how the heck you would get the drive-by-wire throttle body to work. At least you can BUY motor mounts to stick an LS1 into a fox-chassis!
twin turbos, or one big ol' one?
sounds like it would be a wicked car either way. still can't believe that price..
Cool, did we talk or were you just lookin'?...
Deals are out there... Back in '02 I got the red TC in my sig for $430, and its a 5 speed with 116K mi. It does have a few issues but is basically a solid car... It mostly sleeps in the back of my garage... Thinking about sorting it out and driving it some...
BTW it's wheels are on my white one... If you want to see some more of it, pictures P6110108.JPG thru P6110114.JPG are posted on my ISP... Just modify the address once the pic opens from the sig link... They were taken last fall when I pulled it out to clean my garage...
nice car for that price.
