Hey Eric, Baxo and the guys. The board is still slow as all Honduh hell. I can read LS1GTO and Hot Rod in the time it takes to read all the new stuff here everyday. I thought you did the upgrade already?:hick:
well it doesnt seem slow to me so....... i dunno
It was VERY slow. It's back up to speed again now.
i must have been doing something else such as organizing 700 or so nascar cards lol....
doesn't seem any faster than the old site for me, but it isn't crazy old man slow like it was right after the move.
for me, some days it's fast as lightning, others it's painfully slow(like now)
For me, it's slower than the old server almost ALL OF THE TIME. At it's best it runs about even with the old server and that's about 5-10% of the time......
I'd say that's a fair judgement of my experience with the board since the change.
Since I moved I'm on dialup, and for me it's slow ALL the time :hick:
Unless Eric and/or Alex have any ideas I've no idea why it would be slow. Same software, on a larger, well known host (as opposed to the fly-by-night operatiuon we were with) - it should be as fast or faster. Try clearing your cache and cookies to see if it speeds up
No dice, every other site is operating at the same speed that it has before.
Yeah I agree with everyone. I have a T3 at work and 3.0Mbps DSL at home and it is slow at both places. Tonight it is tolerable but sometimes I just end up coming back later because it takes forever to load anything.
I honestly don't experience any of these symptoms that you guys have. There must be some hop between you and the host that is bad. I'm in Tucson, and I believe GoDaddy is in Pheonix... So I'm close, and this site is never slow for me...
Even on the US Coast Guard compi's this site is slow. Go to Car Craft or Hot Rod's forums and you'll see what I mean. They go SLOW. ANd ever since the move they beat this site. I can load up NATO, LS1GTO, LS1Tech, and the amcforums like lightning.
It don't think it's my cache or cookies since I just put this this new Dell on line last week...
Generally other sites are much faster on this computer, and mostly this one ain't bad. There have been a few times the pages were very slow or not loading and I just tried again later.
I used to be dialup, but as of about 3 hours ago, I'm on
Highspeed Lite.
Flyin' at 128k, baby!!! :tg:
hmm. I am curious how you would do with all the images and schematics now that you have higher speed internet.
You mean sending, or receiving? I'll assume receiving, for now.
They do get here a lot faster. Even the big header pics at the top of the page (which for some reason are coded to not be cached, so they re-download every single freaking time!) don't slow things down too much.
Dialup uses audio frequencies, and needs a clean (quiet) line to go fast. That means no noise, static, snaps, pops, buzzes, etc. Every noise can cause data errors, requiring data "packets" to be resent, slowing things down. If it gets too noisy, the modems will shift their send/receive speeds up or down until they get a good signal again. If the line really goes to hell, the modems may even have to do a full "retrain", sometimes reconnecting slower than they were.
Examples from my USR's diagnostics function:
May 24, I was on for 4:23:54, speed 49,333, and had only 33 packets resent, 1 retrain, and no speed shifts. Nice clean line for the most part.
June 8, on for 3:47:24, speed 45,333, 2571 packets resent, 2 retrains, 13 upshifts, 11 downshifts. Dirty, noisy, nasty line!
The best dialup speed I get on a "clean" line is 50,666 bits/sec.
The standard "up to" speed on my DLS Lite is 128,000 bits/sec.
50666 / 8bits = 6333 characters/sec
128000 / 8 = 16000 chars/sec
The best Lite speed is more than twice the best Dialup speed.
Upload speeds are twice as fast too. 64k vs 32k.
Since my ISP's current promotion is a discounted price if I sign up for 1/2/3 years at a time (I think they ran out of digicams, iPods and LCD monitors), it ends up costing me $5/month less than it used to, plus a couple of free months, plus I'm "online" 24/7, plus it doesn't tie up the phone line.
Those folks on here with actual HIGH-speed access (1.5Mb and up, 12+ times faster than me) that still complain about slow speeds, well, they're probably the ones that call you on their cell phones and start screaming and foaming at the mouth if you don't answer on (or before) the first ring. Okay, that's all I have to say for now. (http://www3.telus.net/neat/icons/blah.gif)
I wait until the second ring to yell!:D
