Title: Cup Holder?
Post by: sansabar on June 07, 2006, 06:48:10 AM
I almost hate to ask this question but I'm tired of the coffee burning my hand. Is there some sort of cup holder available for the '88 Cougar w/ floor shift?  Not interested in the one hanging from the window.

you can get one from a taurus and install it in your dash, they will take the place of your equalizer/console above your stereo

Whenever I have a drink, I just wedge it down between the seat belt buckle & center console over on the passenger side, works pretty good...:dunno:

I expect here someday rather soon, Thundergrowl might post a pic of his cupholder that i sent him, out of a 94 Taurus, as mentioned...I'd like to see how it turns out...I was going to use it in mine, but after I swapped interiors, i decided that there'd be no food or drink in my car again...:D

Well, the Taurus cup holder/coin holder DIN unit is too deep.  It fits perfectly except for the depth.  Did I find the wrong piece?

too deep?  wich space are you trying to put it in?  you may have to move some things around to find the perfect home for it.  I am unsure of the fitment but I have heard of people using them.

I thought a cars performance was based off how many cup holder it had. I mean why do you think there is 12 cup holder in my Caravan?

:D

I usualy just have the passenger hold it and if I don't have one I drive one handed and pass the drink back and forth between hands depending on which way I have to turn.

I like a challenge.  I'm thinking of pulling a top slot at the parts yard (don't want to mess mine up!) and using it as a template to create a holder.  I can't believe I'm going to all of this trouble - I really do have other things to do. . .

I could pull the radio :yuck: and put it there - like that's going to happen!  The top space is the only open space and it has no depth - nothing else will fit up there, as is.

The Taurus cup/coin holder you got is the right one sansabar, but it won't fit in the space above the radio because the ducting for the climate control system is in the way.

If you have a full console in your car then it will fit in the space under the radio.  Or you could move the radio down one space and put it where the radio used to be.

Either way it's not a very good option, but it is better than nothing.

Yeah I was thinking, when I put my gauges in that spot above the radio, at first I thought they weren't gonna fit because that definitely isn't very deep. But they did.

Hey, at least these things aren't like my tempo...the cup holder is up under the dash, in front of the shifter of all places, and you CAN'T wedge a cup down by the passenger seat like I do in this car. That thing sucks.

Yup, I understand that. I pulled the console out of mine when I put the short throw shifter in and lef tit out. The thing is usless. There isn't even a lid on the top. Put stuff in it and if you stop too fast the stuff flies out.

My 88 cougar has a cup holder no center console though. It looks just like the one the sansbar has a pic of. Maybe that could be made to work. Mine was located below the radio. It even has the coin holder.

Hmmm, this sounds like a novel idea. I use the mentioned methods of holding my cup, but every once and awhile I get those crazy cups where the lid wants to pop off or heaven forbid.......  a styrofoam cup!!! I don't have a radio so this should be easy.

I didn't give up - just can't use that holder from the Taurus.  I won't shuffle all of the panel around in hopes of making that one holder work.  I will be going at this from another direction and will be sure to post any success stories.:D

I usually put my drinks in the center console.

With all of my cassettes. LOL

I really should get rid of that stock radio someday. ;)

I'm having the same problem in my 93 cougar. Is there any aftermarket parts that would work? Maybe a new center console? I'm a non-smoker if that gives any ideas.

The extent of my drinking in my car consists of stopping on my way to work for a cup of coffee. From the gas station I get it from to the parking lot at work is less than 1/4 mi.

Cup holders? We don't need no stinking cup holders. :D

I got the same cupholder but the space under the radio is the ac control which is too wide. The only space of the proper width is either the radio, (already stated as not an option) or the bottom cavity under the ac control. Thing is, although it fits, the cup drawer hits something in back preventing it from shutting. Suggestions?
