I live in an almost 60 year old block house, and the best thing is you dont get the drafts through the walls like you do in wooden frame houses. The walls get cold since this house has no insulation, but the only breeze that comes through is from the almost 60 year old windows.

I like the lintal block over the garge door. With now wooden beam,I'm assuming that there is no steel beam in it either? Gotta love block. That is what my garage is and it stays so cool in the summer.

when we lived in florida we had a b lock house with cocina on it (that's a florida stucco that uses sea shells)..... best  house i ever owned... quiet and cool......  only reason i don't miss it is it was 1300 sq ft on a 50x90 foot lot with no garage.... blah......  looks like your house is going to be great :)

Looking good! Are you going with steel framing inside?

Edit: Looks like it's going to be wheelchair friendly as well. Maybe I'll come for a visit! ;)

Here in Chicago ALL houses are brick. After the Great Chicago Fire the city passed an ordinance that all houses be brick. The only framing in our house is there just to hold the floors up. The house is almost 60 years old and the only leaks come from the 40 year old windows. I've seen house fires in the neighborhood where the interior of the house was gutted, floors and all, and the house still stood. The just rebuilt the interior and the house looked like new again.

I love those Florida houses. My mom's uncle lives down there. His house looks just like yours on the outside except the garage is on the other side. Well, I guess it's not just like yours then, nevermind.
Good luck with it. :D
